Kit's Story
Kit is looking for a pretty specific home, and we’re okay with taking our time to find it.

She is about 52 pounds and a year old.

One thing we’ve learned about Kit is that transitions are hard for her. She needs time to settle into a new environment, learn her new routine, and figure out that she’s safe. She’s not the type of dog who is going to walk into a new home and immediately act like she’s lived there forever.

Kit absolutely loves other dogs, and we feel strongly that she needs at least one other dog in her forever home. More than one? Even better! She really enjoys having canine friends around, and we think they play a big role in helping her feel comfortable.

We suspect Kit has some herding breeds in her mix, and she definitely has some of the personality traits to go along with it! We actually have a DNA test pending, so we’re excited to see what she is.

Herding breeds can be incredibly smart, observant, vocal, and sensitive to changes in their environment. Kit notices EVERYTHING. Someone entering a room, a new person walking into the house, or something changing in her routine can earn a bark from her. She’s not always immediately comfortable with unfamiliar people or situations, and we need her future family to understand that.

We’re looking for someone who understands these behaviors, is willing to work with her using positive reinforcement, and can give her the consistency she needs.

When it comes to people, less is more for Kit. A quiet, adult-only home with very few people coming and going would be ideal. She needs someone who can be home with her during that initial transition and won’t rush her into situations she’s not ready for.

We know this is a specific home we’re describing, but that’s because we’ve taken the time to get to know Kit. She’s a sweet girl who has so much to offer, but she needs people who understand that settling in might take weeks or even months, not days.

We’ve already seen how much she can blossom when she’s given the right environment, time, and patience.

We’re going to take our time finding her a home where she can settle in, have her dog friends, and just be Kit.
