Kiki's Story

The MexiMutt Project is an initiative of Born Again Pit Bull Rescue. Millions of dogs live on the streets in Mexico, and our rescue works at the source through spay/neuter programs, rescue, medical care, and adoption into loving homes.
- Since 2019, we have matched over 500 dogs with loving homes & spayed/neutered over 3,500 dogs in Mexico.
- All of our dogs are currently in foster care in Guadalajara, Mexico. They are listed in Oregon for adoption purposes because our rescue is based there.
- Once an adoption is approved, the dog will fly to Portland, Oregon (PDX). Most dogs arrive within 2-4 weeks after approval, depending on flight availability.

INTERESTED IN ADOPTING? Please fill out an application at: www.bapbr.org/apply
(We are unable to respond to adoption inquiries submitted through Petfinder)

**************************
Meet KIKI
- AGE: 6 months old (estimated)
- WEIGHT: 8 lbs
- GOOD WITH KIDS who know to respect a dog's space and belongings.
- HOUSEBROKEN? Not 100% yet. As rescues that lived outdoors, they'll need some time to adjust. Most adapt within 1-2 weeks of consistent training.
- The breed listed is our best guess (since they're rescues!)

Most dogs rescued from a painful situation need time to find their spark. Kiki arrived with hers already blazing.

She was rescued from a home where the children had injured her eye so badly it had to be surgically removed. But when she came through the door of her foster home, she walked in playing. Eating. Tail up and wagging in full force. Whatever horrors that little body had been through, it clearly hadn't touched her unbreakable spirit.

"She wants to play with every dog, every cat, every human she meets," says her foster, Mayra.

Kiki's days revolve around digging in the yard, launching herself into the water tub (multiple times, before you've had your first coffee), and dreaming up new ways to involve everyone around her in her games. She's learned to share her toys more graciously--a work in progress, her foster notes with affection--and the world is clearly one big adventure to her.

That said, some dogs need a minute to warm up to her. Her enthusiasm is real and relentless, and the calmer residents in her foster home have been known to give her a pointed look. She means no harm. She just wants everyone to be as delighted with life as she is.

It's clear that Kiki would thrive in an active home, with someone who gets a genuine kick out of a dog who treats every single day like it's the best one. One eye, zero hesitation.

Is your household ready for a dog with this much joy in her?

*************************
Ready to apply? Here's what to expect:

Because our dogs cannot return to Mexico if there isn't a good fit, we're extra thorough in matching each dog with the right family ensuring lifelong success for both dog and adopter.

1. [Required] Complete our online application at www.bapbr.org
2. Phone interview with director Angela if we determine there's a good fit
3. We arrange the flight to Oregon (included in fee) and send periodic photo/video updates
4. Airport pickup at PDX, pay adoption fee, receive medical records, welcome your new family member home!

Timeline: 2-4 weeks for CDC/USDA paperwork and flight arrangement once approved.

$650 Adoption Fee includes all of the following:
- Flight to Oregon, USDA import permit, Screwworm Health Certificate
- Spay/neuter, core vaccines (DHLPPi, Rabies, Bordetella). Flea/tick/heartworm treatment & deworming.
- Blood work & health tests (CBC, blood parasite tests, parvo/giardia/coronavirus test).
- Grooming. Microchip. Collar, leash & ID tag.

Payment methods accepted: Venmo, PayPal, Zelle, or cash

The Meximutt Project is 100% volunteer-run by a small team of dedicated animal lovers. We cannot respond to every application due to high volume, but if we think there's a good match, we'll reach out.
