Kenobi's Story

Hi, I'm Kenobi - a 43-pound Australian Kelpie mix with a big brain, bigger energy, and an even bigger zest for life!

I'm an active, high-drive guy who needs constant mental and physical stimulation to truly shine, so I'm definitely not cut out for apartment living. I dream of a home with a yard and a very active family who can keep up with both my body and my busy mind. Puzzle toys, Kongs, lick mats, training games - yes please!

I'm incredibly intelligent and already know quite a few commands, plus I'm very food- and toy-motivated, which makes learning new things one of my favorite activities. I come on strong in everything I do, whether it's playing, learning, or loving, and if I don't get enough exercise and enrichment, I can become destructive because I simply have too much energy bottled up.

A quick game of fetch won't cut it for me - I'm the kind of dog who wants adventures, challenges, and a real purpose every single day. New faces can make me a little cautious and anxious at first, especially in small spaces where I may pace and worry, but toss a ball or offer some tasty treats and you'll quickly see my confidence grow.

I would absolutely love having a job and would thrive in training, dog sports, hiking, running, or long games of tug-of-war - anything athletic that lets me use my amazing abilities. Because I get excited and can be mouthy or a bit of a bulldozer, I'd do best in a home without small children. Once I've burned off my energy, I'm happy to lie down, recharge, and then get ready for round two whenever you are!

Underneath all that drive, I'm a very sweet and goofy boy who will shower you with kisses, roll over for belly rubs, and bond deeply once I know I'm safe and loved. I thrive in an active home filled with structure, training, adventure, and lots and lots of love - and if that sounds like your life, I can't wait to be your perfect partner.

My adoption fee of $225+tax covers the cost of my care and stay here at the humane society.

All Pennington County residents must also pay an additional $8 licensing fee at time of adoption.

Happy Adopting!

Here are the steps when you’re considering adopting a pet: - Visit our website to see available animals or see them on-site during regular hours, seven days a week. - When you find a dog, cat or small animal you would like to spend more time with, simply call the Humane Society of the Black Hills at (605) 394-4170 for an appointment. - Occasionally, our team is able to accommodate walk-ins, but as we cannot guarantee them, it is best to call for an appointment. -During your scheduled appointment, an adoption advisor will review the animal's history with you and bring the animal to meet you for an initial visit. - A second appointment may be made for you for a variety of reasons (Ex. You have a dog at home you'd like to bring in to meet the pet next). -Once you have met a pet that you think is your perfect match and you have been approved to adopt, your adoption advisor will take you through the adoption process, and you can take your new family member home!
