Kara's Story

*FENCE REQUIRED*

Meet Kara — the “Pocket Dane” with a Giant-Sized Heart

Looking for all the greatness of a Great Dane… in a slightly smaller, more portable package? Say hello to Kara! This lovely little lady is an estimated 3–4 years old, weighs about 80 pounds, and looks exactly like a classic black Great Dane—just delightfully fun-sized.

Kara came to us from a Mississippi shelter after being found roaming, starving, and sick. Despite what she’s been through (including clearly having been a mama before), she arrived with the gentlest spirit and a rock-solid temperament. This girl is pure gold.

?Since settling into her foster home, Kara has blended into the resident dog pack beautifully. With slow, proper introductions outdoors, she has completely hit her stride. She doesn’t bat an eye at the goofy antics of the resident Setter puppy, and she loves sniffing all the best spots on walks with her Lab foster brother.

She’s playful, bouncy, and occasionally hops around like a kangaroo when she gets excited.

Cats? Not a problem. The indoor cat runs the house, and Kara graciously accepts that.

?Farm animals? She’s politely curious about cows, donkeys, and horses but nothing more.

?Squirrels? Well… those are a different story. She’ll absolutely chase those.
?Kara’s velcro level is expert. She wants one thing above all: to be touching her human at all times. If you’ve ever wished for a shadow with ears, she’s your girl. Bathroom breaks, hallway strolls, folding laundry—you’ll have company every step of the way.

She’s also incredibly gentle (and maybe a tiny bit selective) about taking treats, because only the best will do for this queen. She’s working on her kennel training but sleeps like a rock in the human bed all night long without budging an inch. Zero accidents in the house so far—just regular, predictable potty breaks and she’s good to go.

?On leash, she’s mostly well-mannered but will pull when she smells something irresistible (we’re working on it… but the sniffs are strong). She hasn’t been off leash yet—her recall isn’t solid, and without a fenced yard her foster mom plays it safe. Kara does seem like the type who would wander off to check out the world on her own agenda, so a secure yard or committed leashed-walk family is ideal.

People of all ages? Kara loves them. Babies, kids, teens, grandparents—she has no preference as long as they offer pets, love, and maybe a treat she approves of. She hasn’t met a stranger yet.

?Kara is spayed, fully vaccinated, and microchipped—ready for her forever home.
?She came to us heartworm positive, but don’t worry: she has completed a monthlong course of doxycycline and received a ProHeart 12 injection as part of a slow-kill treatment plan. She also picked up a shelter-acquired upper respiratory infection when she first arrived, but after proper treatment she is finally feeling like herself again.

?Kara would make an excellent first-time Dane for a family curious about dipping their toes into the world of couch-hogging giants… without jumping straight into the full-sized model. Kid-friendly, dog-friendly, cat-aware, cuddle-demanding, and endlessly sweet—Kara is everything people love about this breed, just in a pocket-sized frame.

If you’re looking for loyalty, love, and a Dane who fits on the couch WITH YOU not instead of you, Kara is your girl.

Kara’s adoption fee is $350. To read over the adoption requirements before applying to adopt Kara, please go to www.nwflgdr.com/adopt.

PLEASE NOTE: Kara is fostered in Pensacola. NWFLGDR does not transport. All approved adopters are required to pick up the dane in person from his/her foster home.

We will not adopt Dogs to be used as guard dogs or to be kept out-of-doors. 7. A home visit is required for ALL adoptions, without exception.
