Kane's Story

SENIOR ALERT! Kane has been waiting 3 years for his person. Let's get this boy into his very own home! Pleeeeeeaaaase give Kane a chance.

Meet Kane, a gorgeous 10 year old, 85 lb, hunky malamute husky x (or husky malamute x) who is ready to find his very own one-and-only. Kane's first 7 years were spent tied to a dog house alone. All alone 24/7. A cute puppy who turned into a lawn ornament.

But then he came out of the north and found his perfect home - an older man who saw himself in Kane. A guy who lived a quiet life and wanted a quiet partner to share it with. Sadly, Kane's person passed away and Kane has been without his very own someone again for 2 years. That's 9 out of his 10 years that Kane has been lonely.

Kane has lived in a foster home where he enjoyed his daily offleash romps through the fields or his afternoon leash walk along the trails. People always stopped to gush over how stunning this big boy is and ask for his back story. But now Kane is back in a shelter environment and while he lives for his leash walks, a shelter is no place for a senior boy.

Kane managed to stay sane in an environment lacking stimulation or love. He has learned to depend on himself and true to his northern breed nature, he trusts his own judgement. He loves his people and everyone he meets when he’s with them. He is goofy and smart, silly and loving. When he decides he has had enough of something, he will let you know respectfully by moving away or with a head turn. Like many northern dogs, Kane has not had anything of his own so he will guard resources that are important to him and for this reason, he would do best in an adult home. Kane never had a chance to have dog friends and has decided he is not going to start now. Yes, he is good with some dogs but after 10 years devoid of learning dog social skills, he is suited to a home with no other animals unless you have one of those dogs who Kane falls for.

Kane is looking for a non city home where people are natural and comfortable around dogs, where they will let him find his balance again in a new place. Kane is a confident boy but his world has been small and he looks to his people to be his anchor. While Kane enjoys his multiple leash walks each day, he would much prefer to pad around after his people in his very own home. He is quiet in the house and is a lower energy boy outside - the perfect mate for those leash walks that keep us all moving and healthy.

Kane is up to date on vaccinations, neutered, microchipped and dewormed. His adoption fee is $400. He is currently living in New Liskeard with our partners at Northern Animals Rescue and Sanctuary.

Adoption process includes application, virtual home visit, phone interview, reference check, meet & greet, adoption contract and $400 adoption fee.
If you are a dog savvy husky or mal lover, you may be the one that Kane has been waiting for. Fill out the ADOPTION APPLICATION by copying the link below into your browser:

https://secure.ifaw.org/canada/northern-dogs-adoption-application-form

If you sound like a good fit for Kane, someone will get back to you within a few days of receiving your application.

Northern Dogs Project's Adoption Policy
Northern dogs are not a breed but a lifestyle. Until recently most dogs were free roaming but communities are now making changes to how they want to coexist with dogs and many are now tying. Dogs are all identified by Animal Care and are adopted to families in the south as family members only. Northern dogs are smart, experienced, dog social, have been handled by kids, feel safe with women, and are slightly unsure of men at first. Dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated (core vaccines DAPP and rabies), microchipped and dewormed.
