Kai's Story

Oh my...we need a new photographer!!! These pictures just do not do me justice! My name is Kai which in Hawaiian means ocean. Not sure what that has to do with me, so my AGPR friends looked it up and found that in Chinese the word signifies happiness and in Finnish it means rejoice. OK - that sounds better!

I've been at Appalachian Great Pyrenees Rescue since 2018. My former owner was moving too much and asked if AGPR could find me a forever home. Yes, it has been seven years, but don't feel bad for me...I love it here. I have lots of human friends AND I have a job...I keep an eye on the chickens (and the duck) in the area next to my exercise run. And earlier this year, I had a shy male Pyr as a buddy and I taught him how to trust people.

I'm a bit shy and reserved when I first meet you...a little bit nervous. But once you prove yourself worthy of my trust, I'm a great hugger and lovebug, just ask some of the AGPR volunteers. I'm a great leash walker and enjoy my walks in the woods. There's so much out there to explore. Besides all that, my markings are simply beautiful and so am I...inside and out.

I have to tell you that you would have to be a very, very special family for me to want to leave AGPR. I do consider this my forever home and am treated like royalty. I asked to be posted on Petfinder so people would know that AGPR is taking awesome care of me and will continue to do so as long as donations are available.

All Great Pyrenees require a fenced-in back yard. If you have questions about the breed or our adoption policies and procedures, please go to our website at www.agprescue.org.

Our adoption application is online. http://agprescue.org/adoption-application/agpr-application-donations/

Appalachian Great Pyrenees Rescue's Adoption Policy
We believe that any prospective owner of a Great Pyrenees should be educated about the breed and we stand behind all of our placements for the life of the dog. If you adopt a dog through AGPR, you can expect us to be there if you have any questions about the breed, if you need help, if you’re having problems, or for any reason at all. If for any reason you can’t keep your adopted dog, you must return it to the rescue. We expect all adoptive homes to an adequate physical fencing, to be able to care for a large breed of dog, to provide appropriate medical care, and to be committed to making the adoption of a rescue dog a success. Our adoption fees are $400 for adults and $450 for puppies (12 months and younger). All dogs have received medical care, are up to date on shots and are spayed/neutered and microchipped. Adoption fees go directly to our rescue fund to help pay for the health and vet treatment of previous and newly rescued Pyrs.
