Kai's Story
Meet Kai!

Kai is labeled as special needs because he is a young dog who has not been well socialized. He requires more socialization training with his adoptive family.

Kai came to us as an owner surrender recently. A young woman adopted him from someone on Facebook and now has to move back home with her parents and could not take him with her. Kai turned one year old on July 8th and is approximately 30 lbs. She was told he is a Labrador mix when she got him. We can see several potential breeds in him, so we are just calling him a mixed-breed dog.

Kai is a great snuggler and overall an in-your-pocket type dog... most of the time! He was very scared when he first arrived and took a while to start trusting our staff. We had to sit on the floor and lure him closer with treats until we gained his trust. He stayed with a staff member for a few days and would not leave her side. Once he was moved to a foster home in took him only about 30 minutes to warm up to everyone else there and start playing with the other foster dogs. Then he really started showing his young age and pretty much annoys Sullivan all day long!

When meeting new people, he is still very shy, tail between the legs and a little bit of whale eye showing. But once he becomes comfortable, he is a wild puppy!! Anyone interested in adopting him should understand that he really has two personalities right now. We can offer a discounted training program with his adoption to help him build a bond with his new family and also socialize him more. This is through a wonderful grant.

Kai is house-trained, crate-trained, and leash-trained, but needs more confidence and training in public places, and is up to date on all vaccines. He is neutered and microchipped as well. He is good with other dogs, but at this time does not have much confidence or training, so he behaves as a young puppy and will annoy other dogs! He has shown to be very barky towards cats and we believe there may be some sort of hound breed or spaniel in him so we do not think he would do well with cats without a lot of training and supervision. He does well in his foster home with a baby, but he may be very nervous around children at first so we will have to do more training and testing with him around kids.

If you are interested in adopting this sweet boy please send an inquiry today.
