She is an incredible Shih Tzu blend. Maltese? Lhasa? What do you see? Whatever she is, she's a Saint.

PLEASE NOTE: Kacey’s hair will grow as it is not fur. She will need professional grooming every 4-6 weeks. Only apply if you understand the additional maintenance and cost these dear hair-not-fur souls need and are willing to commit to life for such care.

Kacey has been treated for severe skin infection and hotspots that happened before coming into our care. She had to be partially shaved down to let her skin heal. Her hair is growing in beautifully, and her skin is looking so healthy. We are thrilled that she’s doing so well with time and patience.

___________________

Personality

Kacey is the quietest and sweetest Saint here in our sanctuary. She is very, very shy initially. When she gets nervous, she will twirl a bit until she calms down. Once she does, she wants to connect. She follows the humans she trusts around and is so loyal. She wants to be part of what they are doing, though sometimes she needs an invitation. We expect this will change in time, once she has her person.

Her gentleness and soulful eyes have such a presence in the room, even though she barely makes a sound. Once she trusts a person, she will dance for them before dinner. She loves to connect by coming up to our faces, touch her nose to ours, and take in the smell of our hair.

Kacey has met all of the adoptable Saints in the sanctuary, and she is so gentle with everyone — even the more sensitive ones like dear Abigail. She is nervous around puppy energy, and she’ll wait in the corner while they are playing. She gravitates toward the quieter Saints like Toby and Stanley. They hang out together by the fireside, enjoying the safety and quietude of the sanctuary while they await their lifetime families to adopt them.

Kacey goes potty outside as well as potty on pads indoors. She will adjust to your schedule. She is starting to walk on a leash, but she will need some time and patience for her to be more confident on walks. She’d prefer a quieter setting; she would not do well as a city dweller — if you want to take her out on walks in a busy setting. She will thrive with a quiet backyard or a quiet walk (and possibly carry) to a lowkey local park.

Kacey is a bit camera shy, but you can get a glimpse of her gentleness and angelic presence in this short film: https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/1167209014

Ideal Home

Kacey will especially thrive in a home that can give her companionship day and night. She would be okay for a few hours on her own, but she is truly in want of being around someone most of the time.

Older children are case by case — only those who have experience living with dogs, understand dog behavior, and have great respect and love for them will be considered. Kacey gets nervous around energetic puppies and louder noises, so it’s best to match her with gentler, quieter humans and canines.

Plan on sharing your sofa and bedroom with Kacey. She will want to be by your side. No crates for Kacey. If they are a must for your lifestyle, then she is not for you.

She likes her quiet time, but expect her to dance with joy when you return back into the room. Her gentleness, sweetness, and loyalty will blow you away.

___________________

Love and Commitment At Animal Saints Rescue Society, our goal is to keep dogs out of overcapacity animal control facilities and out of a re-homing cycle. We place the dogs we save into lifetime families. With this in mind, we seek families who understand that an adoption is a lifetime commitment. The families who adopt from us believe that love is not a feeling, it is a decision. Some humans still believe it’s okay to try out a dog for a few weeks, a few months, or even a few years — then discard when they get bored or don’t want to deal with emotional or physical ailments. We are looking for the empathetic, kind, and patient humans in this world who view these Animal Saints as family, and they will do whatever it takes to give them what they need. Will that family be you? We look forward to finding out and receiving your application!

A handwritten application is needed with three personal references, a veterinary reference, and a groomer reference. A list of questions is sent to all references initially, then follow-up calls are made. Phone interview with potential adopter happens once references are checked. A list of websites are visited beforehand for background check (do not adopt list, checking to see if they been involved in anything criminal by looking up court documents). In-home visits are required or photographs of where the dog will be living if they are out of town. Then, they must meet the dog in person before the official adoption happens. We have all adopters sign adoption contract in person as a ceremonial event and so they take the adoption commitment more seriously.
