Meet Jubilee

Jubilee is a very sweet girl who needs a home where she is the only pet. She is currently thriving in a foster home and here is what they have told us:

Jubi likes - chewing & pulling things apart. We tried out a cardboard box stuffed with toys, packing paper, and treats, and she loved pulling it apart so much we got her a holey ball to do the same - it's one of her faves! She also has fun with tug, destuffing tuffy toys, has a couple favorite designated digging spots and enjoys chewing on her goughnut. Licking peanut butter off a spoon and bits of cheese are her favorite high value treats.

We have a gated hallway where Jubi stays for periods of the day and she's happy to lay on her bed during that time. We haven't introduced the kennel since the hallway has worked well, so we're not sure how she'll do in a kennel. She easily sleeps through the night cozied up in a dog bed in our room.

She gets pretty excited when outside/ on leash - we've introduced 1 2 3 treat, lets go, and "what's that - and she's responded well to encouragement and practice inside. She's improved with sticking closer on walks and checking in when she feels calm & safe, but still gets over threshold/pulls & lunges very easily. She has thrived when we're mindful of keeping a somewhat smaller world - lots of breaks outside, but on a leash, and a fair distance from triggers (50+ feet). She's gotten easily over-stimulated - while viewing dogs, squirrels & cats from inside - so free range of a yard with a doggy door would probably be too much for her for quite a while.

Jubi is incredibly smart - so far she can reliably sit, lay down, stay / free with food, paw, high five, what's that, let's go, bed, gentle licks (when she gets a little mouthy / excited) all using positive reinforcement, within 3 weeks - mostly when inside. Outside there's a lot that she's still reactive to, so she definitely needs more practice and encouragement, but regularly goes potty when cued.

However, she's also highly sensitive and needs to build confidence. Because of her level of reactivity & fear we not only think trying to start using alpha theory would damage her confidence and feeling of safety but also be unsafe for her potential adopters by leading to escalation. She's shown fearful reactions/ had accidents from us raising voices near her & even loud neighborhood noises. Often if she hesitates to respond to a cue, she happily listens after adding encouraging words and a little space to process. We think she would thrive with a family dedicated to building a calm safe space for her while continuing with positive reinforcement.

She's a fantastic and sweet dog who's just going to need a lot of positive reinforcement, patience, and love.
