Meet Jota, or Joti Roti, or Yoda! He is a 12 years young Pekingnese mix weighing in at 17 lbs. But don't be fooled by his age - Jota can keep up with the most playful of puppies! He currently lives with a large, young dog and a 7yo child with no issues. Jota is very playful and can hold his own wrestling with large dogs who are mindful of their size. He would also do great in a home with children, as long as they have the maturity not to try to pick him up or grab at him.

Jota spent his life outside and in a garage and is growing increasingly comfortable with indoor life as the days go on. He is hoping for a home that will let him snuggle up on the couch and enjoy all of the comforts he deserves in his senior years.

Jota is overall a quiet dog, but does bark when people knock at the door. He is a bit slow-to-warm with new visitors to the home, but as long as you give him appropriate space, he will jump up to sit beside you or lick your chin in no time. He is not used to walks, but now leaps 4 feet with excitement when he sees you grab the leash. He gets very excited and pulls but is easy to redirect and loves to sniff the world.

Given that Jota lived outdoors, he initially marked/urinated across the house. After 2 weeks in foster care, he has decreased to one accident daily but knows not to mark when his humans are watching. He continues to improve in this area, but needs an owner comfortable with ongoing training in this area or starting out with use of a belly band. He will need a home committed to ongoing grooming appointments as well.

Jota very quickly picks one favourite human and will not let them out of his sight. He just politely follows and observes them all day, and wiggles with excitement when invited to snuggle in bed! Jota is learning to play with toys and will undoubtedly enjoy this more once his painful teeth are removed, which will be done prior to adoption. He is pure joy!

Jota has an upcoming dental surgery to deal with some very painful teeth, that will also cure his stinky kisses! He has been heartworm tested, and all of his vaccines up-to-date, neutered, microhipped, vet checked and treated with Nexgard Spectra.
