Josie In A Foster Home Yorkshire Terrier & Jack Russell Terrier Mix Jefferson, LA

Josie was found by a good Samaritan and brought to the Jefferson Protection and Animal Welfare Services to hopefully be reunited with her family. Unfortunately, no one came looking for her and she was not microchipped. Josie was matted so we took her to our groomer for a spa day. Her pictures are from before and after her spa visit.

UPDATE 2/19/24: Josie is in a foster home with one of our volunteers. We've learned that she likes to run zoomies around the yard so she would love a securely fenced yard to run around. She also is doing well on short visits to the dog park and walks in the neighborhood.

We estimate Josie to be about 1 to 1 1/2 years old. She will definitely bond strongly to whomever makes her their furever family member. She loves to go on walks and will befriend anyone with the best food. Josie does not like cats and is dog selective. A meet and greet with any resident dogs would be required. Josie would also do better in a home without children as she is a little nervous and snappy which is somewhat typical of small terriers. She does not like to be picked up or petted over her head. Josie also gives every indication that she is house trained.

UPDATE: Josie has been working with a trainer to help her learn to trust people and other dogs. She is making great progress and the Jefferson SPCA is willing to assist with the cost of continued training for an approved adopter.

Stop by Jefferson Feed (corner of Jefferson Hwy/Central Ave) and meet our dogs during store hours. Adoption fee includes vaccines, spay/neuter surgery, microchip and a heartworm test. Any dog that tests positive for heartworms can be treated through our Fix-A-Heart Program. Adopter has to buy a year supply of heartworm prevention before treatment begins.
