Jolene's Story

Meet Jolene, a playful, affectionate 3-year-old, 55 lb. American Bulldog mix who has waited far too long for her chance at a real home. She has spent over 900 days in a rural shelter in South Carolina, patiently hoping someone would finally choose her. We’re sharing her story up north in the hopes that it helps Jolene get the visibility, and the furever family, she so deeply deserves.

Jolene came into the shelter as a spry 10-month-old puppy, full of zest for life and hope for what the future might hold. After months of waiting, she was finally pulled by rescue, and everyone believed her happy ending was just beginning…sadly, that wasn’t the case.

She spent an entire year in a rescue in Maryland, only to be seized from the property—along with 69 other dogs—due to local ordinance violations. From there, Jolene was transferred to a northern shelter, where she spent several more months and ultimately found herself on a euthanasia list. Once again, an entire village rallied to save her life and bring her safely back to South Carolina. And now…another year has gone by.

Despite everything she’s endured, Jolene remains joyful, affectionate, and full of playful, puppy-like energy. She loves being with her people and thrives on human connection. Jolene LOVES to play and is an absolute riot. She can keep you entertained for hours with her shenanigans. She is always down for an adventure or sunbathing in the backyard. However, she does also enjoy her couch and snuggle time as long as the pillows are arranged just right. She’s a diva that way ;)

Jolene is crate trained, housebroken, and eager to please. Like many young dogs, she’s still working on leash manners and typical puppy habits such as jumping and chewing, but she is smart and responds well to structure, consistency, and positive guidance. With patience, she continues to make great progress.

She is dog-friendly and does best with calm, non-dominant pups and slow, thoughtful introductions. Jolene would thrive in a home that understands the importance of proper decompression and can provide the stability and routine she has missed for so much of her life. She has never been around cats. A home with a fenced yard is highly preferred.

With the right family, Jolene will be an incredibly loyal, loving, and devoted companion. She has survived shelters, setbacks, and heartbreak—but what she wants most is simple: a safe home and someone to finally choose her. Jolene has waited long enough. Could you be her furever?

Her adoption fee is $425 and Jolene is vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm negative, and spayed.
