Meet Jolene

I have an Adoption Pending but hope you will consider one of our other great dogs in need. Thank you!

5/10/21 Update: Jolene was adopted in April but her heartbroken adopter must return her due to his sudden illness. If you meet Jolene you will fall in love. She is a tall and beautiful dog at 75 lbs who loves all people including the little ones, walks nicely on a leash, rides well in a car, enjoys being outdoors and being in the yard. She gets along fine with other dogs; cats are an unknown. She is affectionate and a joy to have with you.

This sweetheart loves getting morning pets and belly rubs, and waits for them before starting her day. She is house trained and loves going for walks, with no mobility problems or special medicine. A young 10 years old, she is a happy girl with a spring in her step. She has been known to chew on a sock or her toys in previous foster home, but did not chew once in her adoptive home. Jolene is in New England and ready to meet you!

Background: A stray dog in the Mobile Al area was taken to a very crowded City shelter and named Joel. When shelter workers finally had a chance to take a good look "under the hood,” they discovered Joel is a girl! Thus, she became Jolene.

Jolene is 10 years old with plenty of pep for her age, and the sweetest personality you can imagine. She is a tall, pretty lovebug weighing about 74 lbs., with a thick black coat and a patch of white on her chest. We believe Jolene is a black lab mixed with something luscious — possibly a Golden or a Newfoundland. Jolene is a happy dog who warmly welcomes Lisa, our lead volunteer in the South. It does not hurt that she recognizes Lisa as “the treat lady,” and Jolene loves treats! Jolene gets along fine with other dogs, although cats are an unknown. She has no mobility problems and requires no medications.

Upon meeting Jolene, the vet examining her commented, “She is the sweetest thing in the world!!” And this was in spite of the fact that Jolene had a painful growth in her ear that was causing considerable discomfort. She also had a small mass in the mammary area. The growths have both been removed, and we were thrilled when test results showed both were benign and will be of no concern going forward. Jolene tested positive for heartworm and has completed her treatment. She has been spayed, vaccinated and micro-chipped. Don’t miss out on this beauty!

Rescued dogs come with a range of needs - from behavioral to emotional to medical. When approved applicants adopt such dogs, they agree to continue the rehabilitation we have begun.

ABOUT OUR RESCUE
Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters will be required to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may indicate that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are frequently getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and complete the application process so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

The information provided on each dog is based on the observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters, and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will behave and adapt in your home.

A contract is signed on the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring their SGRR dog to a vet within 7 business days. All dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. However, if an adopter's vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog may be returned and a full refund would be provided.

Most of our dogs are fostered in private homes. We do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! To this end, the rescue retains an interest in each dog and our dogs can never be surrendered, re-homed, or sold. Should an adopter no longer be able to keep their SGRR dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer providing proper care. Adopters agree to follow up visits as needed.

Please be a ray of light for this Sunshine dog and make a tax deductible donation toward medical care and other expenses. Every cent of your generosity goes directly toward the care of a Sunshine dog.
