John Wayne in MO's Story
The adoption process starts with an Online Adoption Application you can find at 'https://www.adoptaboston.com/adoption-application.
Phone interviews do not take place til after an approved application is on file and we have a possible match for your home

My name is John Wayne. I am 3 years old, weigh 25 pounds, and I am DEAF. I need a new home because my owner was no longer able to take care of me. I am being fostered in Rosebud, MO.

I love following my humans and my foster brothers around the house. I like to be in all the excitement! I like to chew on bones, but chewing on stuffies is my favorite! In true Boston terrier fashion, another favorite of mine is taking a nap in the sunshine!

I have a lot of energy and I really love to play and interact with my foster brothers. They are doing their best to keep up with me, and show me the ropes in my foster home. I am deaf so it’s a little challenging for me to interact with them appropriately. To make things a little easier my foster mom is teaching me sign language so I understand how to play appropriately. I’m a fast learner and am already learning the commands for come, sit, lay down, good dog, and no.

I really enjoy taking walks, but I’m not 100% sure how to walk on a leash yet so I do pull a little bit at first. But, my foster brothers are doing a great job teaching me how to walk on a leash.

At first, I would rather not be in a crate and be left alone, but I’m starting to get used to my crate being a relaxing place where I can take naps until my humans get home. If someone sits with me to relax for a minute, I will sleep in my crate all night or all day while my humans are at work. They usually have to wake me up to let me out to go potty.

I’m a very sweet boy and I will be your best buddy! I just need a family who will be patient with me and continue to teach me sign language so I can successfully interact with my new family.

Here's a little more about me:
Housetrained? Yes, but I do have an issue with marking that my humans are working on with me. Belly bands are helping a lot while inside the house.
Leash-trained? Yes, but I do pull a little bit because I want to smell all the smells! After a few minutes of walking I settle down and will walk next to my human.
Rides well in car? Yes
Good with other dogs? Yes
Good with cats? Not yet tested
Good with young children? Yes, I’m good with all ages!
Good with strangers? Yes
Shy or confident? I’m somewhere in between, but more on the confident side.
Barks? Yes, when I get excited or lonely and because I can’t hear, it is hard to regulate my volume.
Apartment qualified? I think so.
Any Special needs or Health Issues? I am a healthy boy, but I am deaf.
Adoption Fee? $ 450

The adoption process starts with an Online Adoption Application you can find at ''https://www.adoptaboston.com/adoption-application.

All our dogs are spayed/neutered (if six months and older), up to date on rabies and distemper, heartworm tested, and microchipped. Other medical needs diagnosed while in foster care are also treated prior to adoption.

MABTR requires a fenced in area from families who own their home, however we DO adopt to apartment complexes and communities where fences are not permitted due to leases and covenants. In these cases a leash law must be enforced. We do not accept invisible fencing.

MABTR only adopts to families residing in NE, CO, MO, KS, IA, WY, SD, ND, ID, UT, MT, MN, and NW AR due to the lack of volunteer support in other states, no exception even if you are willing to drive.

If you are Interested in Adoption please complete our online adoption application at 'https://www.adoptaboston.com/adoption-application

Petfinder's form is NOT our application.
