JOEY-JJ (ALBUQUERQUE NEW MEXICO)'s Story

First good step without obligation is to go to www.JCLDR.com and fill out our application on line, then we will phone you and see if he is a match or not. Call Janeen if you have questions.

STATS, OVERVIEW: Joey is a 7 year old ( as of 2026) neutered fully vaccinated male Catahoula mix. He lives with his owner in Albuquerque, New Mexico and needs a new home. He is totally housebroke. He is crate broke to an open wire crate. His weight is approximately 70 pounds. He is good with other dogs except his littermate that he came with. They are too competitive with each other. She is too bossy, so no bossy females in his world. He won’t be pushed around with any dog. Like most Catahoulas he will stand his ground. A run easy playful dog would work and he does respect other dog’s boundaries and gives them space. It is not unusual for littermates to end up as they age, not getting along. No cat tests so the answer to that is no. Do not know about children, has not been tested out. He is very playful so children that are children and in groups, might overstimulate him and he would enter into the playing roughly. Typical Catahoula leash puller but will allow a check on it and responds.. unless there is high stimulus or competition. He likes to be a part of action with other dogs. He has been in multiple dog pack activities and he has done well with that. Any sized dog any gender. He does play rough like a Catahoula but he does more run and chase. He is vocal to get attention from the pack but it is more game. He has been in doggie day care/boarding and done with with it and strangers and other dogs. He loves riding in the car and loves it but he does move around unless restrained reasonably. He is not a good lap driver. He wants to be near you and help. Not a good plan. Not nervous in a vehicle unless after initial happy excitement fades. He is great with veterinarian care, they like him and he has no forced restraints. Nail trims are a challenge but he can safely be restrained at a pet place that does it, or at the vets and it can be done. A common story among many dogs, many breeds. They consider you a predator when you attack their feet. That is so common but workable. His favorite ball is Chuckits. No stuffed animals, he thinks they need shredded. He does love ropes. He loves to tug with ropes. He has puzzle games that are safe and he does well with these, supervised. Likes them. He is very food motivated which makes him very trainable and focused and he is willing to learn new things and even eager. He has never been exposed to bodies of water, not even mud puddles thank goodness on that. Mom’s don’t like swamp puddle dogs. He is a good alert watch dog, he is a vocal dog when necessary, but he is not excessive with barking. Very balanced on that. He is competitive and sneaky with stealing other dog’s toys but, it is when the dog is distracted that he picks his timing. He is not ugly about it. He looks for an opening. Game is on. He loves to dig and not excessive but if left to boredom and unsupervised.. He will make a garden spot for you. Auto rototiller. He much prefers to be with his people than left out as a yard dog. He is sooo affectionate and is a big baby and still thinks he is your “puppy, don’t tell him he is not.

HISTORY: Owner was in college and found them beside the road while going to his job and became a “good sam”. They were stuck between tumbleweeds, in a hot sun and one of their dumped buddies was run over and three were left. The other one went to a shelter and adopted out right away.. so the two went to their home for nearly 7 years. The bunch of them were maybe a month old when dumped beside the road. They are being rehomed due to future changes in the “good sam”He has owners life.

GOOD: No human bite incidents, he loves the humans sometimes too much and doesn’t get what personal space really means. Surely they need a lap dog. Or someone to make them laugh. He has a huge heart and has more heart than brain so that makes him a total fun loving goofball. He will keep you laughing. He thinks he is perfect as a goofball even if you don’t see it that way. When he loves his people he fleas them which is a dog’s way of grooming each other.. it is not biting, it is little nibbles like flea nibbles. That is his way of showing affection. So don’t box his ears for that. This is not unusual for some dogs.

BAD: He is a raccoon by nature. PUT YOUR TRASH UP. He will find it and explore. He is a counter surfer as most Catahoulas are so no food where he can steal it because he will. He is a runner also, whenever he is at home and owner is there, he looks for an escape route and he will jump over low yard fences. He is very agile and to him it a game. Catch me if you can. Supervised outside alway is the best solution. The owner has learned how to outmaneuver and out sprint him. He likes to jump up enthusiastically to meet and greet people.. He is easily overstimulated sometimes and gets distracted from the almost perfect dog he really is. He can be re-focused most of the time. Carry chicken or bread. It will bring back his focus.

UGLY: Fighting back when the bossy female get ugly.. nothing else ugly to report.
