Meet Jo, The Little Woman Who Finally Got Her Own Story <br/><br/>If Louisa May Alcott had written one more chapter of Little Women, I’m fairly certain she would have made room for Jo.<br/><br/>Not because Jo is wild or rebellious or forever scribbling away at the dining room table, but because, like her namesake, our Jo is smart, spirited, independent, and quietly extraordinary. And after everything she’s been through, she is finally discovering what it means to simply be a dog.<br/><br/>Jo is an 8 year old, 14 pound Miniature Poodle and a puppy mill survivor. She arrived at her foster home with three other female pups, and their foster family lovingly named them after the four March sisters. And, as it turns out, the names fit. Jo is absolutely our Jo.<br/><br/>She is smart. Like figure-out-the-entire-household-routine-in-no-time smart. She learned where to go outside, when it's time to eat, when it's bedtime, how to go up and down a full flight of stairs, how to navigate doors, and even how to ride in the car. She is completely housebroken when kept on her routine, and she picked all of this up remarkably quickly.<br/><br/>She is also discovering something she may never have experienced enough of before:<br/><br/>People can be wonderful.<br/><br/>Jo is learning to trust humans, and watching her blossom has been pretty darn special. She loves attention. She wants to be near you. In fact, her newest favorite hobby is being your shadow. Wherever you go, Jo is increasingly likely to think, “Oh good! We're going together.” <br/><br/>And then there are those soulful eyes. Jo has mastered the ancient and highly effective art of looking deeply into your eyes until you realize that whatever you were doing can probably wait because Jo would like some cuddles now, thank you very much.<br/><br/>She is friendly, social, happy go lucky, and confident. She gets along beautifully with other dogs, including multiple dogs at once, and she's good with cats, too. She likes men, women, and respectful kids over five. Because she is still learning about the world and building her confidence, we think a home without young children would be best.<br/><br/>Jo is not leash trained yet, so her future family will need to patiently introduce her to that skill. But honestly? Considering how quickly this little girl has learned everything else, we're betting she'll get there.<br/><br/>She has no known medical issues, takes no medications, and has completed all of her vetting. She doesn't shed, although her beautiful poodle coat will need regular brushing and grooming.<br/><br/>At home, Jo is wonderfully easy. She can climb right out of an x-pen, because apparently gates are merely suggestions when you're a determined Little Woman, so she now enjoys free range of the house and does beautifully. She sleeps in her pen at night, although she has made it abundantly clear that if someone were to invite her into the human bed, she would not file a formal complaint. <br/><br/>Her ideal wardrobe? Bright, cheerful colors and yellow flowers, naturally. Her ideal season? Anything that doesn't involve winter. Her walk-out song? I'm Just a Girl by No Doubt.<br/><br/>But perhaps the most important thing about Jo is this: She is becoming Jo.<br/><br/>Not a puppy mill dog. Not a dog who was overlooked. Not a dog defined by her past.<br/><br/>Just Jo.<br/><br/>A clever little girl with soulful eyes, a happy heart, a growing trust in people, and an enormous capacity to love.<br/><br/>She doesn't need someone to rescue her anymore.<br/><br/>She needs someone to finish the story. <br/><br/>And if you think your home might be the place where Jo gets her happily ever after, we have a feeling this particular Little Woman is going to write a very beautiful final chapter. <br/><br/>Albert's Dog Lounge is a specialty rescue focusing primarily on senior and special needs dogs.<br/><br/>Our process includes an approved application, reference checks, a homevisit, and then a meet and greet with the dog.
