Jimbo's Story
Fostered near Mobile AL

Meet Jimbo.

Jimbo is the little survivor you didn’t know your family was missing.

This tiny Great Dane mix boy was pulled from the woods in Mobile County, Alabama, completely alone and absolutely skeletal. He was starving, scared, and clearly had never known what it meant to be safe. After scanning for a microchip and holding for a reclaim that never came, we got him fully vetted. That’s when we learned he is heartworm positive. The good news? He is already on treatment and on his way to a healthy future.

Jimbo is estimated to be about 10 to 12 months old and currently weighs around 60 pounds. We suspect he may be a mix of Great Dane, hound, and Lab, but your guess is as good as ours. What we do know is that he is still gaining weight every single day and blossoming right before our eyes.

And his personality? Pure gold.

Jimbo does not have a mean bone in his body. He is sweet, gentle, and quietly affectionate. He can be timid at first, but give him a soft voice, a few treats, or a kind hand and he melts almost instantly. Once he trusts you, he looks at you like you hung the moon.

He is wonderful with other dogs and cats. He currently lives with three dogs and relies heavily on them to show him how to “dog” inside a house. It’s very clear he had never lived indoors before coming to rescue. Watching him discover toys for the first time was both heartbreaking and beautiful. Thresholds were especially hard in the beginning. He would pancake at doorways and chatter his teeth, unsure how to cross from one room to the next. But each new day brings more confidence.

Now? He is discovering that couches are amazing. Soft beds are life changing. Air conditioning is elite.

Jimbo is still very much a puppy. He absolutely loves to play. He may not be the one chasing the ball, but he will happily run alongside the dog who is. To Jimbo, being part of the pack is everything. Even going to the bathroom is fun! He’s picked up potty training because he quickly learned it’s what the cool kids do. If his friends are going, he’s going. He would truly thrive in a home with playful, confident dogs who can continue to show him the ropes.

Because he is still building confidence, a home with a fenced yard would be best for him. He would make an excellent companion for a family with children who want a stable, loving, midsize dog to grow up with.

Jimbo’s adoption fee is partially sponsored at $200. He is neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped, and currently being treated with doxycycline and a ProHeart 12 injection for his heartworm treatment.

If you think you could be the family who shows this sweet woods baby what forever really means, please read over our adoption requirements and apply at www.nwflgdr.com/adopt.

Please note: NWFLGDR does not transport. All approved adopters are required to pick up their dog in person from the foster parent.

Jimbo survived the woods. Now he’s ready for the couch.
