Jax's Story

At 7 years old and a fit 41 pounds, Jax is the perfect mix of brains, beauty, and a little bit of mischief. He’s the kind of dog who’ll make you laugh daily and still melt your heart with those soulful Border Collie eyes.

He’s sweet and loving. Silly and sassy. Curious and intelligent. Energetic and knows how (and when) to chill. His favorite pastimes include tug-of-war, snuggling, and food puzzles (because genius needs enrichment). He will ward off any squirrel or rabbit invasions that may be planned in your backyard in exchange for belly (and butt!) rubs.

Jax will thrive in an active household that loves adventure: hikes, walks, or interactive games. Daily mental and physical exercise are the key to keeping him happy. He’s got a nice off switch, making him oh-so-easy to live with. He would love to have a fenced yard, be kept safe on leash, or could be professionally trained on an invisible fence.

Jax would love a canine sibling. He does great with dogs at the boarding facility he visits on occasion. He could also be an only dog in a engaged family that makes him their center. Best with older kids (roughly 12+). No kitties, please.

He’s happy to be contained in a room/area while his people are out and about, not being a big fan of a crate. He walks nicely on leash unless one of those pesky squirrels crosses his path – he has to give them a piece of his mind! He knows basic obedience commands, is wickedly smart, learns fast, and communicates with his humans through his expressive, thoughtful eyes.

Jax will keep his lucky new family smiling, guessing, and loving every minute together. If he sounds like the perfect fit for you, APPLY to adopt him at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt

Jax is located in Elk River, MN.

His adoption fee is $450 + MN sales tax. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on age-appropriate vaccines. Upon adoption, all of our dogs go to their new homes with a collar and harness, leash, starter food, blanket, favorite toys & treats. They are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.

As a foster-based rescue, we do not have a central facility to visit. Meet and greets with specific dogs are arranged once your adoption application (not an inquiry through Petfinder) has been received, processed, and approved. We are located in Minnesota and adopt to an area 400 miles from Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Heart of a Border Collie Rescue's Adoption Policy
Please read 'Do You Have What It Takes' on our website (www.hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt) before applying to adopt a dog through our rescue. You may also find information about Border Collies helpful (www.hoabcr.org/border-collie-info). Steps in our adoption process include: 1) Filling out an application. Taking this step indicates you are truly interested in adopting a dog - it is not binding. 2) If your application meets the requirements for the dog you're interested in, it will be screened through an initial interview with one of our volunteers. If your application does not meet the requirements, you will not be contacted. 3) If we determine your home could be a good fit for one of our dogs, we will complete reference and vet checks, and set up a home visit, which may occur in person or virtually. 4) If approved, details about your application are sent to the foster that has the dog that you're interested in. If the foster feels you are a match for their foster dog, they will call you to talk in detail about the dog, and possibly move to an in-person meeting. Meetings are allowed AFTER applications are fully approved as described above. 5) If that dog is not deemed to be a good match, we may suggest another dog for you, or your application will be kept on file for a potential future dog. 6) Adoption is complete with payment and a signed adoption contract. Our adoption fees are specified in individual Petfinder listings. The fee includes spay/neuter, microchip, heartworm and Lyme tests, rabies & distemper & Bordetella vaccinations (if old enough). Our dogs go to their new homes with a collar, harness, leash, rescue ID tag, starter food, toys and blanket. We are required to charge appropriate MN sales tax.
