Jasper's Story
If sweetness were a sport, Jasper would be undefeated.

One of our volunteers recently said it best:
"We need to put this mush in a kissing booth fundraiser. He’s so sweet and just wants to be loved." And honestly? That’s the truth.

Jasper is about 3.5 years old (estimated DOB 7/20/2022) and was born deaf — but you’d never know it watching him live his best life. He rolls with the world just like any other dog. He’s happy, affectionate, and thrives on attention. At outdoor school events, he was the star of the show — kids and adults lined up to pet him, and he soaked up every second of it.

Being deaf doesn’t slow Jasper down — but it does mean his future family will need to stay mindful to keep him safe and be willing to learn how to communicate with him. Deaf dogs are incredibly capable, smart, and bond deeply with their people. With consistency and positive training, they absolutely shine.

Jasper is:
✔️ Good with kids
✔️ Good with other dogs
✔️ Possibly okay with cats (with a slow, patient, proper introduction)
✔️ A certified love bug

We currently have him on a diet to help him lose a few pounds for his long-term health — he’s taking it like a champ.

Jasper doesn’t know he’s “different.” He just knows he loves people. He just knows that pets are wonderful. He just knows that life is meant to be enjoyed.
If you have experience with deaf dogs — or are willing to learn — Jasper could be your absolute heart dog.
Come meet this happy, kiss-ready boy💛

Bringing your dog to meet Jasper? The dogs need two successful meet-and-greets at the shelter, and can go home at the second meet.

Please remember ALL dogs and cats once adopted need time to decompress in your home. Focus on creating a calm, safe, and structured environment to help them adjust. Take it slow. This gives you time to get to know their true personality, plus for them to get used to their new home and routine.

Stop by to fill out an adoption application and spend as much time as you like with our dogs. Please call your veterinarian to permit them to speak with us for our vet check. If you rent, bring proof (lease/contract) that you are allowed to have a dog. If you have a dog at home, two meet-and-greets are required to make sure they seem compatible. We offer a free session with our trainer, Canine Cooperative, once an adoption is finalized. Ask us about it!!

Our adoption fee is $150 for dogs. This includes heartworm and Lyme testing, flea/tick preventatives, deworming, age-appropriate vaccines, and spay/neuter if six months or older.

For more info on our shelter and available pets, check us out online:

(973) 728-2859
Visiting Hours:
Mon - Fri: 10a - 1p
Wed eve: 7:30p - 9p
Sat -Sun: 10a - 3p
