Jane's Story
Now that she’s found her confidence, this girl LOVES to move. Whether it’s long walks, light jogs, or just exploring the world at your side, Jane is ready to be your adventure buddy.

Jane came to us in early October with her brother, Cade. These two are Shar-Pei /Rhodesian Ridgeback mixes, about 2 years old (born 5/1/23). While Jane came out of her shell faster than her brother, she still appreciates slow, thoughtful introductions with new people. But once she knows you? Total lovebug. Belly rub enthusiast. Professional lean-in-for-affection girl.

Jane is:
✔️ Good with kids
✔️ Able to live with another dog (two successful meet-and-greets required)
✔️ Possibly okay with cats (unknown)
✔️ In need of a little fitness glow-up

She’s slightly overweight right now, but with consistent exercise and a balanced diet, she’ll slim down and feel fantastic. And honestly — she seems excited about the plan.

As the days go by, we’re watching Jane realize she’s safe. That she’s cared for. That she doesn’t need to be worried anymore. It’s been beautiful to see her personality bloom — playful, affectionate, and eager to connect.

Jane and Cade can also be adopted together if you’re looking for a ready-made sibling duo.

If you’re searching for a loyal walking partner with a soft heart and a growing confidence, Jane is ready to meet you. 💛

Please remember ALL dogs and cats once adopted need time to decompress in your home. Focus on creating a calm, safe, and structured environment to help them adjust. Take it slow. This gives you time to get to know their true personality, plus for them to get used to their new home and routine. Thank you!

Stop by to fill out an adoption application and spend as much time as you like with our dogs. We do not adopt first come; we always select the best placement for our animals. Please call your veterinarian to permit them to speak with us for our vet check. If you rent, bring proof (lease/contract) that you are allowed to have a dog. If you have a dog at home, a meet-and-greet will be scheduled for the second visit. We offer a free session with our trainer, Canine Cooperative, once an adoption is finalized.

Our adoption fee is $150 for dogs. This includes heartworm and Lyme testing, flea/tick preventatives, deworming, age-appropriate vaccines, and spay/neuter if six months or older. If they are too young, we require a $50 deposit that will be refunded upon proof that the pet has been altered.

For more info on our shelter and available pets, check us out online:

West Milford Animal Shelter Society
Lycosky Drive, West Milford, NJ 07480
(973) 728-2859

Visiting Hours
Mon - Fri: 10a - 1p
Wed Night: 7:30p - 9p
Weekends: 10a - 3p
