Jane's Story
Jogging with Jane!! As one of our volunteers puts it... This girl, now that she's not shy any longer, loves to be on the move during her walks... She needs to warm up to new people. Jane came to us with Cade, her brother, in the beginning of October. They are Shar-Pei/Rhodesian Ridgeback mixed young dogs. At two years old, Jane came out of her shell but she remains leery of new humans. Male and Female. Let her come to you, get to know you and in time, it's all good. She then is a lovebug, needs someone or a family with patience to show her confidence, and trust. You will need to have her meet new people slowly & a in positive, low-key way. She likes belly rubs too! Jane can be adopted to a family with kids 10+ y/o and into a home with another dog. The dogs need to have two successful meet-and-greets at the shelter, and can go home at the second meet. We do not know about cats. She's a tad overweight which with more exercise and cutting back on food; she will shed those pounds to be healthier. As days pass, Jane is learning that she is being cared for and no need to feel worried or scared any more. We are enjoying getting to know her personality. Could this cutie be right for your family? Her and Cade CAN be adopted together too.

Please remember ALL dogs and cats once adopted need time to decompress in your home. Focus on creating a calm, safe, and structured environment to help them adjust. Take it slow. This gives you time to get to know their true personality, plus for them to get used to their new home and routine. Thank you!

Stop by to fill out an adoption application and spend as much time as you like with our dogs. We do not adopt first come; we always select the best placement for our animals. Please call your veterinarian to permit them to speak with us for our vet check. If you rent, bring proof (lease/contract) that you are allowed to have a dog. If you have a dog at home, a meet-and-greet will be scheduled for the second visit. We offer a free session with our trainer, Canine Cooperative, once an adoption is finalized.

Our adoption fee is $150 for dogs. This includes heartworm and Lyme testing, flea/tick preventatives, deworming, age-appropriate vaccines, and spay/neuter if six months or older. If they are too young, we require a $50 deposit that will be refunded upon proof that the pet has been altered.

For more info on our shelter and available pets, check us out online:

West Milford Animal Shelter Society
Lycosky Drive, West Milford, NJ 07480
(973) 728-2859

Visiting Hours
Mon - Fri: 10a - 1p
Wed Night: 7:30p - 9p
Weekends: 10a - 3p
