No, not 100% yet -- Please keep in mind that our dogs are rescued off the streets, they are NOT always 100% housebroken and will need time and patience to adjust. Even in a foster home in Mexico, the dogs are often living in an environment with no carpet or grass or living outside. In the house, it is usually tile flooring and outside it is dirt/concrete. Most of our dogs transition well and only need about 1-2 weeks to get on a potty schedule/routine.

• LOCATION: Currently in Guadalajara foster care. 2-4 weeks to arrange flight once adoption is approved

**Meet JAMES**

Nearly two years ago, a MexiMutt volunteer named Mayra noticed a street dog near her workplace. Day after day, she stopped to feed him, this medium-sized mixed breed who already carried visible wounds—a leg and hip injury from being run over that left one of his back paws turned. Then one day, James disappeared.

Three weeks later, he returned in severe distress. When Mayra rushed him to the vet, they discovered something far worse than his untreated leg injury: James had been a victim of sexual abuse and needed emergency hernia surgery. He was malnourished, sick, and emotionally devastated—a dog who had learned that the world was a cruel place.

**The Transformation**

Look at James today and you'll witness what dedicated love can accomplish. The sadness that once defined his expression has vanished, replaced by confidence and quiet joy. After nearly two years in foster care, he's become a dog who finally understands what safety feels like.

"He's a very calm dog," his foster mom explains. "It's rare that he barks." This 2-3 year old boy gets along beautifully with other dogs and cats. While he hasn't lived with children, his gentle, peaceful nature suggests he'd adapt well to a family setting.

James is the definition of an easy companion. He's perfectly housetrained, handling his business in the yard and during walks. He walks politely on leash but lives for those moments in the park when he can run free—and despite his hip injury, he *loves* to run. His vet simply recommends maintaining a healthy weight to avoid stressing his hip, but the old injury doesn't prevent him from living an active, joyful life.

**Simple Joys**

His favorite things reveal a dog savoring comforts he never knew existed: the feel of grass under his paws during park visits, sinking into a cozy dog bed, claiming his spot on the couch. He's obedient and responsive, coming reliably when called even during the excitement of off-leash play.

The abuse he endured has healed completely. The physical scars have faded. What remains is a soul who chose trust over fear, who transformed pain into an extraordinary capacity for contentment.

**Ready for Oregon**

After nearly two years of healing and growing, James is ready for his forever home in Oregon. He needs what he's always deserved but never had: dedicated time, genuine love, and a family who sees him not as a damaged dog, but as the remarkable survivor he is.

He'd thrive with people who appreciate his calm presence—a companion for park walks and quiet evenings, a dog who asks for nothing more than consistency and affection.

James has waited long enough.
