Meet Jack
Jack is an adorable 3-year-old pup who arrived at the Shelter on 2/23. One of our volunteers described him as the color of a toasted marshmallow. He is such a good boy! His tail is always wagging, he loves everyone he meets, loves other dogs, lives for food and snacks, and always has his Beagle nose on the ground sniffing. He is great in the car and very gentle.
When he went to the vet, they discovered he was heartworm-positive. He will have to go through several months of treatments involving a series of injections, and we would really like him to be in a home, hopefully with someone who plans to adopt him when the treatment is complete. During his recovery, he will have to have very restricted activity for 6 to 8 weeks. He can't be neutered until he finishes treatment. We would like to place him locally since he will need to go back and forth to the vet for the treatments. The Shelter will cover the cost of his treatment.
If you are interested in fostering him or fostering to adopt, please fill out an adoption application here: medfieldshelter.com/adopt
If a dog is listed on our website, he/she is still available for adoption, but there may be applications ahead of yours. We typically receive many applications for every dog we post. All adoption meetings are by appointment. Our dog adoption fee for dogs five years old or younger is $350. Every dog we place receives age-appropriate vaccines, is wormed, treated for ticks/fleas, tested for heartworm, microchipped, and spayed/neutered before adoption. We send each dog home with a collar and leash. Please fill out the adoption application if you want to be considered for a dog you see in our care.
With very few exceptions, dogs are happiest and the most well-behaved when they receive daily exercise and ongoing training, so we always prefer to place our dogs with families willing to commit to both.
