Izzy's Story

Izzy sits square in the grass, tips her head back, and grins up at whoever is holding the leash, tongue out and ears half folded, like she has been waiting all morning for you to show up. Izzy is a three year old girl with a bright white coat and pink tipped ears. She came to the shelter after her owner passed away, so she already knows what it is to live in a home, and it shows. She is house broken, and she is a friendly, affectionate dog who likes being close to her people. She is also very treat motivated, which makes her an easy dog to teach. A pocket full of treats gets her full attention, and she is happy to work for them. Izzy gets along with other dogs, so she could go home as an only dog or join a house that already has one. She has been waiting a little over two months now for a home of her own again, and she is ready for it. A few honest things before you apply. We do not know how Izzy does with cats or with children, so we would take introductions with either one slowly. We prefer to schedule appointments for meet and greets to make sure someone is available to spend time with you. The shelter is open Monday through Friday, 12pm to 4pm, and appointments outside of those hours may be available based on volunteer availability. Thank you for your interest in adopting from Petersburg Animal Care & Control! We’re so glad you’re considering giving a shelter pet a loving home. We do not charge an adoption fee; however, all animals must be spayed or neutered prior to adoption, and the cost of the procedure is covered by the adopter. We’re happy to support adopters by coordinating appointments with our low-cost veterinary partners for spay/neuter services and other basic care needs. Adoption Process • We prefer to schedule appointments for meet-and-greets to ensure that staff or volunteers are available to spend adequate time helping you get to know the animal. • When you arrive, please sign in and wait to be escorted by a staff member or volunteer before entering the kennel areas. • For safety reasons, please do not reach into kennels or attempt to touch animals through barriers. If you’re interested in a particular pet, our team will bring them to a meet-and-greet area for proper introductions. • After your visit, you’re welcome to submit an adoption application. Applications must be approved before we can schedule a meet-and-greet with your family pets. • Meet-and-greets with personal pets are by appointment only, and for safety, two staff members must be present to handle all animals involved. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to make each match the best fit possible — both for our animals and their future families.
