Izzy's Story

Meet Izzy!

Don't let her tiny size fool you—this little 5-pound Yorkie has a heart full of love and is ready to start her next chapter.

Izzy spent the first three years of her life with an elderly couple who loved her dearly. Sadly, after her mom passed away and her dad became too ill to care for her, Izzy and Cooper came into Day of the Dogs in search of a new family.

Despite all the changes she's experienced, Izzy has remained a happy, friendly little girl.

She loves people, enjoys being picked up, and has a playful personality that's sure to make you smile. She's also wonderful with other dogs and recently attended daycare for the first time, where she got to experience making new canine friends.

Because Izzy spent most of her life in one home, she's still discovering just how exciting the world can be. Car rides are a brand-new adventure, and she'll happily bounce around with excitement as she takes everything in. She's also learning how much fun walks can be and will benefit from continued leash practice and confidence-building.

At just 5 pounds, Izzy is the perfect little companion to curl up beside you after a day of exploring. She has many wonderful years ahead of her and is ready to share them with a family who will help her continue experiencing all the things she missed during her first few years.

Izzy has lived her entire life with Cooper, so we'd love to see them adopted together if the right family comes along. However, we're also open to adopting them separately. If adopted on her own, we think she'd do best in a home with another friendly dog who can help her continue building confidence and adjusting to new experiences.

Izzy has already proven that she's resilient.

Now she's simply looking for someone to love her for the rest of her life.

Could that be you?

Basics: She is a spayed female that is 3 yrs old and she weighs close to 5lbs. She is currently in a foster home in Kansas City, MO with 5 other small dogs, an 8yr old boy and two adults.

Adoption Process:
- Please fill out our adoption application: https://www.dayofthedogs.org/adoption-application

- One of our team members will get back to you via phone.
- Our dogs can be seen by appointment only. We do not have a facility at this time. Dogs are in foster homes or boarding
- She has been spayed and is up to date on vaccines and rabies, fecal, worming, and microchip.
-We do not place holds on our dogs. Please do not contact us until you are prepared to adopt. NOTE: We are very good about updating the pet's profiles once adopted. So no need to write us to ask "Is he/she still available?" If the post is up, the dog is still available.

About Day of the Dogs
Day of the Dogs is a volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to helping shelter and rescue dogs find safety, families, and second chances.
Founded in 2015 by a Kansas City native, Day of the Dogs began after Pam moved to Houston, Texas and witnessed firsthand the devastating shelter overcrowding crisis facing southern communities, where some shelters have only days to find an outcome for homeless pets.
Today, Day of the Dogs coordinates life-saving transports from Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and other southern areas to rescue partners, shelters, fosters, and adopters in Northwest Indiana/Chicagoland and the Kansas City region — communities where adoption demand can help create better outcomes for pets in need. We also focus on long stay dogs in the Greater Kansas City and surrounding rural areas to help those pets get out of kennels and into homes.
We also facilitate direct adoptions through our foster networks in both Kansas City and Northwest Indiana and partner with shelters and rescue organizations across Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, and Indiana to save more lives together.
Because every open foster home creates another opportunity to save a dog, we are always looking for foster families to join our mission.
Day of the Dogs operates entirely on donations. Every transport, veterinary appointment, supply purchase, and life saved is possible because of supporters who believe every dog deserves a chance.

Donate or learn more: www.dayofthedogs.org
