She is darling white Shih Tzu with hints of tan.

PLEASE NOTE: Ivy's hair will grow as it is not fur. She will need professional grooming every 4-6 weeks. Only apply if you understand the additional maintenance and cost these dear hair-not-fur souls need and are willing to commit to life for such care.

Ivy has been incredible for her baths, haircuts, and nail trims. She is such a love and is so patient.

Personality

If Ivy could walk on her back legs all of the time, she would to keep up with you! She was born a dancer and waves with excitement when she sees humans coming. If that wasn't enough to make your heart melt into a puddle, she leans into her hugs like it's the most important thing in the world. She's a Saint in the truest sense of the word.

Ivy loves to play and is quite a friend to everyone here -- from baby Shih Tzu to senior Saints here in the sanctuary. She likes to keep up with her littermate Jasper and especially snuggles with him.

Ideal Home

It is ideal for Ivy to be in a home with other small dogs and/or very dog friendly cats around. She would not do well in a home as the only dog, especially if her people are gone all day at work. Families with children are case-by-case.

Ivy will especially thrive in a home that can give her companionship day and night. She’d be okay for a few hours on her own with her siblings if you provided her with puzzles and things to do while you’re away.

Plan on sharing your sofa and bedroom with Ivy. She will want to be by your side, no matter where you are and what you are doing.

If you have a very secure fenced-in backyard for running and playing, this is ideal for Ivy. She is going to be a little girl, even full grown. She will need exercise but not miles and miles of daily hiking like a working dog. She is a companion animal in the truest sense of the word. Her goal is to love and be loved.

Love and Commitment

At Animal Saints Rescue Society, our goal is to keep dogs out of overcapacity animal control facilities and out of a re-homing cycle. We place the dogs we save into lifetime families. With this in mind, we seek families who understand that an adoption is a lifetime commitment. The families who adopt from us believe that love is not a feeling, it is a decision. Some humans still believe it’s okay to try out a dog for a few weeks, a few months, or even a few years — then discard when they get bored or don’t want to deal with emotional or physical ailments. We are looking for the empathetic, kind, and patient humans in this world who view these Animal Saints as family, and they will do whatever it takes to give them what they need.

Will that family be you? We look forward to finding out and receiving your application!

Animal Saints Rescue Society's Adoption Policy
A handwritten application is needed with three personal references, a veterinary reference, and a groomer reference. A list of questions is sent to all references initially, then follow-up calls are made. Phone interview with potential adopter happens once references are checked. A list of websites are visited beforehand for background check (do not adopt list, checking to see if they been involved in anything criminal by looking up court documents). In-home visits are required or photographs of where the dog will be living if they are out of town. Then, they must meet the dog in person before the official adoption happens. We have all adopters sign adoption contract in person as a ceremonial event and so they take the adoption commitment more seriously.
