Isabella's Story
Meet Isabella
Deltona, Fl

Isabella is a beautiful 3-year-old American Bully weighing around 60lbs who is searching for a patient, loving family to call her own.

She has been wonderful with us in rescue and has truly become a favorite among our team. Isabella is dog friendly and has done very well with every dog she has met with us, though like many dogs, she may appreciate a short adjustment period when meeting new dogs in a new environment.

She has been fostered with other dogs, cats (indoor - will chase outdoors cats)

Older kids/teens would be ideal, who are calmer. She was panicked when the 3y old she was with screamed. She did great with the calmer teen boy though!

Loves to chase lizards and has a blast with a baby pool!

From the Director:

I personally fostered Isabella in my own home, and I truly cannot say enough good things about her. She was affectionate, easy to live with, wonderful with my dogs, cats and overall just an incredibly enjoyable dog to have around.
Was friendly with all visitors. She settled into our routine beautifully and quickly became one of those dogs that you genuinely love having by your side.

She has attended adoption events, gone out in public, come to work with me at the veterinary clinic, met many new people, and been handled by multiple staff members without issue. The Isabella we know in rescue is loving, goofy, sweet, social, and very eager to bond with her people.

Isabella did complete two adoption trials with families who genuinely adored her, but ultimately felt she was not the right fit for their households. During these transitions, Isabella appeared to become overwhelmed while adjusting to new environments and unfamiliar routines.
In one home, there were frequent visitors very early on, loud household dynamics with a young child screaming and other dogs barking over workers being on the roof, construction noise outside, and the workers in and out regularly, which seemed to leave her anxious and on edge during the adjustment process.
In the other, the male adopter attempted to rough play with her and it appeared to make her uncomfortable and uncertain. She then barked at home and backed away and didn’t want to approach him for a while after that. She also barked at a visitor as they exited a room.

At no point was Isabella described as aggressive, and both families expressed that she was otherwise a wonderful dog who simply was not settling comfortably into their particular environments. When things were calm and predictable, she reportedly relaxed and did very well.

Because of this, we believe Isabella would thrive most in a home willing to give her time to properly decompress, settle in, and build trust at her own pace. She is not a “bad” dog whatsoever — she simply appears to need patience, structure, reassurance, and understanding while adjusting to major life changes.

She likes her cage, that is a safe place and allows her to decompress when she is unsure.. giving her a place to retreat to when she feels necessary.

Once comfortable, Isabella is an incredibly loving companion who deserves a family committed to helping her feel safe and secure. She has already shown us repeatedly just how wonderful she truly is, and we fully believe the right home is out there for her.

Patience, structure, a firm but very gentle and loving owner will get miles with her. She needs to feel safe but also have an owner who will correct behaviors, such as barking at visitors in the home.

We are doing our best to work on these things but they are also not behaviors that I, my rescue partner or the other foster who has houses have have experienced with her, making it difficult to correct something that is not happening with us.

If you think you may be Isabella’s perfect match, please apply below:
https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/PPAC/Dog
