IRIS's Story

Iris (A142239) is a 6-year-old Flat Coated Retriever mix who weighed 95.8 pounds on intake! Foster update: Iris has been thriving in her foster home! She gets incredibly excited when her harness comes out because she knows an adventure is about to begin. She loves going for car rides, and her absolute favorite part is sticking her head out the window and taking in all the sights and smells along the way. Iris also loves wading in the water and chasing tennis balls. Iris is not a good fit for a home with cats, as she tends to become more interested if a cat is frightened and runs. She can also be selective with other dogs, so slow, thoughtful introductions are important. However, once she gets to know another dog, she does well and has successfully lived with 3 other dogs in her foster home. She mainly objects if another dog jumps on her or tries to steal one of her toys, but she is not food possessive. Iris has also done well being left home alone outside of a kennel and has not shown signs of separation anxiety. She knows basic commands, including sit and down, and is learning good manners around waiting permission before exiting a door. One of the things her foster loves most about Iris is her love of cuddling. If you enjoy weighted blankets, Iris is the perfect match - she’s happy to lay right on top of you and soak up all the love! Iris is a fun-loving, affectionate companion who is ready to find a forever family to share adventures and cuddles with. 05/28/26 This smiley lady is Iris! Iris arrived at the shelter as a stray and is now looking for her new place to call home. Her finder stated that she was a little too interested in cats, so we are recommending that she go to a home without small critters to help set her up for success. Iris has been very people-friendly, but we do not know if she has experience around children. Please ensure you are making appropriate introductions with new people and animals to help set her up for success. We encourage her next owner to bring her to a basic obedience class to continue working on her manners. Iris was seen by the shelter vet due to an upset stomach while at the shelter and sensitive ears. She has been started on the appropriate treatment plan and cleared for adoption! If you are interested in meeting Iris, please let us know!
