IKE's Story
Meet Ike. Age: Four years old. Weight: 75 lbs (but convinced he’s a lap dog). Tail: always wagging. Ike is a happy-go-lucky Kelpie/Shepherd mix who's having a ball in foster care. He's sweet, silly, obedient, and full of affection—the kind of dog who gets overlooked at the shelter simply because the environment is too overstimulating for him to show his best self. He's been our longest resident, and is ready to meet his family. At home, Ike is curious and smart, loves his toys, and is happiest when he's near his people—he’d be a great WFH companion, the perfect balance of lay-around and go-for-a-walk. He loves the word walk, along with exploring the yard, and is a great patio dog for outings to cafés and breweries: happy to sit and look around while you chat. The practical stuff: No accidents. No destruction. He's left unkenneled and sleeps through the night. When his foster parents are out, he sleeps soundly (pup-cam confirmed). He eats well, listens well, and gets along great with his 13-year-old foster sibling. He's good with kids. He previously lived as a mostly outdoor dog and is now enjoying the spoils of indoor life. Ike is working on leash manners—he can pull, though he settles once he gets going. He gets excited to greet other dogs: enthusiastically, not aggressively. What you'll get every single day: tail wags, full-body snuggles, and a dog who is just genuinely happy to be here. Ike is neutered and ready for his long-awaited home. To meet him, contact SLO County Animal Services at 805-781-4400.
