Meet 2021 HUXLEY NoCats!

I'm HUXLEY! I'm a gorgeous 3-year old GSP with tons and tons and tons of energy. I bond instantly to my people and love being with them. I'm looking forward to having a home of my own and getting all the love and exercise an enthusiastic guy like me deserves! I'm still pretty young and haven't had much life experience but I'm very interested in exploring everything and anything. I have that "young dog" enthusiasm for life and will make a magnificent partner for outdoor adventures and indoor snuggling.

GENERAL APPLICATION NOTES:

Adoption areas are limited to Utah, Nevada, Idaho, Oregon and Washington with a home visit.

We strongly urge adopters to consider a male canine companion if they already have a female GSP/GWP. We get asked several times a year to take in one member of a 2-female GSP family because there are control issues between their girls that result in pretty ferocious fights. Interestingly that never happens among males. Go figure.

Dogs under 2 years of age need to go to a home with another well-socialized canine companion of a similar size (when grown) and within a few years of the pup’s age. This is how they maintain and continue their learning/socialization process. Socialization outside the home is important but doesn’t replace the in-home learning that is so important as the pup ages. https://www.facebook.com/ UtahsPerfectPointers/posts/ 1460968517254816

Most older dogs aren’t interested in having a puppy incessantly chewing on it and demanding attention. If you live outside of the Salt Lake area and are sure that your older dog just loves puppies, please arrange a visit at your home with a 2-4 month old pup for a couple of hours and make sure that your older dog feels the same way about this that you do. Please video the interactions and send it to us.

Just a word of caution........ most pointer types need jobs. Otherwise they're not good pets. They need to be able to utilize their brains and no amount of exercise without a "work" or "thinking" component is adequate. The job doesn't need to be hunting. But it does need to be something that satisfies their genetic predispositions - nose work, agility, tracking, dock diving, etc. The job cannot just be obedience. If they can't use their innate senses they're just never going to be the dog you want for the next 15 years.

A physical fence is required for most of our dogs.

As far as other breeds go, the pointers are generally good with most other breeds with the exception of the Arctic breeds, herding breeds and bulldogs. I'm not sure why, but if there's ever an altercation in daycare between a UPP dog and another dog, it's generally one of these breeds. It may be the difference in energy levels. It may be some ancient behavior we know nothing about...... Not sure.

Utah's Perfect Pointers is a very small rescue group and doesn't have the resources to adopt to states outside of Utah, Nevada, Idaho, Oregon and Washington with a home visit. If you are outside this area and interested in adopting a GSP please contact the closest groups below. Keep in mind that not all of their dogs may be listed on their sites.
