Huxley's Story

This beautiful little boy is HUXLEY and he's an adorable Shih Tzu who is just 10 months old and weighs 14 pounds. He has a beautiful golden silky coat and the absolute sweetest personality. Huxley is upbeat and fun and a total love-bug. He gets along great with other dogs and is friendly with everyone he meets. We have not tested him with cats. He's in wonderful Foster home on Long Island and he's up to date on all his vaccinations and neutered too. We are looking for a loving family for this sweet baby! Due to his small size, children in the family must be dog savvy and respectful and gentle with dogs. Long Road Home's Adoption Policy
Where do we get our dogs? Majority of our dogs come from high kill shelters. Some are owner surrender or strays. All of the dogs that come into our rescue have been in high emergency situations where they would not be wagging their tails. We work with a lot of shelters in the south as well as on long island. We have wonderful people who dedicate their time to the dogs and transport them into our long island foster homes.   What happens to the dog after we accept it into the program? All of the dogs first go to see a vet. Once they receive a clean bill of health the go into a home. We normally give each dog at least a week in a home with qualified trainer before we place the dog into a foster. We really like to have the dogs house broken and to have at least started basic obedience training. After the trainer we place the dog into its new foster home until it finds its forever home.
