Howie's Story

Howie is the last of his siblings still available for adoption. Howie is part of the West Plains, MO litter that we rescued in March. They were abandoned outside when their owner passed away. Howie is growing up in rescue. He is really ready for a family of his own!

Howie is a very sweet, affectionate and attentive dog. He bonds easily to the people around him. Watch out for his big Pyr paw when he wants attention! Howie loves to play with both people, cats, and other dogs. He is affectionate with the cats and curious and respectful of the parakeet in his foster home. Howie can also play on his own and is crate trained or can be gated off in a room when you're not home. Howie particularly likes ice cubes, chew toys, and soft toys. At 9 months old, Howie is already a big boy so it's hard to remember that he's still a puppy. He doesn't quite always know what his body is doing; coordination is still developing! A typical Pyrenees, Howie will alert you when he hears deliveries or comings and goings outside. Howie is 100% potty trained and walks pretty well on a leash.

Howie weighs about 80 lbs. He is up to date on core vaccines, microchipped and up to date on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives. Howie will be adopted on a spay/neuter contract with adopter promising to neuter at a later date and must provide vet records at that time.

Howie is being fostered in Columbia, MO.

Adoption Requirements
*A secure & visible fence
*A home visit
*A vet check with at least a two year vet history

Adopters can be located in Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, and Arkansas. We are able to help transport to those states.

Great Pyrenees Rescue of Missouri's Adoption Policy
Applicants must have a secure and visible fence and children in the home must be 12 or older. In order for your application to be approved, you must also pass a home check and a vet check which includes having at least a two year vet history. All of our dogs can be adopted in Missouri and surrounding states that we are currently able to transport to: Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Arkansas. Our adoption fees are: Dogs 1 year and older: $400 Puppies under 1 year: $450 All of our rescued Pyrenees are fully vetted prior to adoption, spayed/neutered (dogs 1 year and older), microchipped, up-to-date on immunizations, and up-to-date on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives. The adoption process begins when you complete an online Adoption Application, naming either one or a few of our available dogs you are interested in adopting. Completing an application does not restrict you to a specific dog, nor does it obligate you to adopt. Once we have received your application and determined if you are a good match for the dog you are interested in, a representative from our adoption team will contact you to go over our process in its entirety. From there, we will put you in contact with the foster parent, so you may set up a meet and greet with the dog, in person when possible or video chat if that isn't an option. Before adopting, keep in mind that many of our dogs prior to being rescued and placed in foster homes have never lived inside a home. Some dogs may never have been walked on a leash, socialized, house-trained or spent time with other animals. Our fosters work with these dogs on many of these issues to prepare them for their furever homes, but these dogs will still need patience and understanding as they learn to adapt when they come to you. Rescued dogs need adopters who will not give up on them if they have accidents in the house, pull on the leash, dig in the yard, or act nervous or frightened. An adoption will be successful only if the adopter is committed to seeing the dog through the adjustment period. The rewards are the unconditional love and loyalty of a wonderful companion, and the satisfaction of knowing you have given a rescued dog a better life. If at any time after adoption, you decide you cannot keep the pet for any reason, the dog must be returned to Great Pyrenees Rescue of Missouri.
