Howie's Story

Howie looks like a little mogwai (that's gremlins before they eat after midnight) and behaves like a gentleman. He has experience living with a family, so he is move-in ready when the right person comes along.

He gets along with dogs, cats, and older children. He's housetrained (although it's helpful to have a belly band in place to prevent marking), walks nicely on the leash, and rides calmly in the car.

Howie has dry eye, so he will need eye drops long-term. Fortunately, he's a pretty good sport about them, especially if bribed with treats. His vision is very restricted, but that doesn't limit him. He's still happy to go on walks, sniff around in the backyard, and make his way around the house independently. He can even manage going up a few stairs, although a whole staircase might be more than he's up for.

Howie's ideal home would have another dog and include lots of short walks, adventures, structure and routine. He would prefer it to be relatively quiet, so he can enjoy peaceful naps. He is fairly independent and does not require a lot of lap time. He likes pulling toys out of the toy bin to play with and he loves sitting in the grass smelling all the smells and getting some sunshine. So, he'd love to have a fenced yard.

Howie will need patience as he transitions to his forever home. Due to his limited vision, it takes time for him to learn his way around and get used to new people. He gets anxious overnight and would benefit from having a belly band or diaper during that time. Howie doesn't like to be approached too quickly or rough handling. He does well when talked to with a positive, friendly tone.

Howie is approx 11 years old and 13 lbs.
Fostered in Gaithersburg, MD.
Please apply at mirishaven.org.
