Hoss's Story

Hoss – Male, Tri-Color, One Blue and One Brown Eye Hoss is one of Abby’s puppies, rescued just a day(s) after birth. Abby led rescuers to her newborns after surviving on the streets and Hoss is now a thriving 13-week-old ready for his forever home. Hoss is a sweet and gentle boy who loves attention and praise from his people. He can be playful and energetic but also enjoys relaxing by your side. Hoss is excellent with other dogs, cats, and children. Hoss is fully vaccinated for his age, microchipped, dewormed, fecal tested, on flea and tick prevention, and neutered. He is learning house training, crate training, and leash manners. Hoss is already 20 to 30 pounds and is expected to grow into a large dog. We believe Mom Abby is likely a Border Collie or Australian Shepherd type mix, though she could have some other herding breeds in her, like Cattle Dog or even Great Pyrenees. We have no confirmed information about the puppies’ father, but based on their size at just 13 weeks, it seems likely he was a larger breed. Possible guesses include German Shepherd, Bernese Mountain Dog, Saint Bernard, Boxer, or other larger breeds, and it’s very possible that the puppies carry a mix of several different breeds. Scout's Street Smart Rescue's Adoption Policy

Adopters must be 21+ years old and have proper identification. ALL members of the household must agree on the adoption. We do NOT allow adoptions to be surprises for others. Out of state adoptions are ALLOWED. We currently adopt to homes located in PA, NY, MD, DE, NJ, MA, CT, RI, OH, NH, OR, WA, SC, and FL. We will also adopt to homes located within 200-250 miles from Amarillo, TX 79101, and may make exceptions on a case-by-case basis for longer distances or other states. Potential adopters must submit an initial application that will be followed up by a phone interview and home check. Potential adopters must be able to prove that property management permits pets if renting or prove homeownership. We call two personal non-family references (ie. friends, neighbors or co-workers) that are to be listed on the application. If there are any current pets in the home, we will call your Veterinarian as well to ensure all pets are up to date on state required vaccines and are spayed/neutered. Potential adopter must provide basic care for the life of the animal. An adoption contract must be thoroughly read, completed, and signed by the adopter before the adoption is complete. The adoption process could range anywhere from a few hours, up to a week. We do NOT hold dogs/puppies.

My mission is two-fold. One, to rescue and to get these animals’ immediate needs met. Their needs range anywhere from immediate medical intervention to getting fosters lined up.
