Honcho's Story

At every adoption event, Honcho quickly becomes a favorite. People are drawn to his goofy personality, friendly nature, and the way he seems genuinely happy to meet everyone. Yet somehow, this lovable 3-year-old, 74 lb bully mix is still waiting for a family of his own.

This handsome boy has some visible scarring on his face and head, suggesting he may not have had the easiest start in life. Whatever happened in his past, Honcho has not let it define him. He is a happy, affectionate dog who is ready to focus on the future and enjoy life as a beloved companion.

Honcho is great with children and loves spending time with people. He already knows sit and paw, walks nicely on leash, and is eager to learn more. He is food motivated and enjoys training, though he can get a little excited when treats are involved. A simple reminder to be gentle is usually all he needs, and he responds well to positive guidance.

Honcho has done well around respectful dogs and appears to be dog friendly, but he would be just as happy being your one and only. He enjoys companionship and is more focused on his people than on having canine friends around. As always, we recommend a meet and greet with any resident dogs.

More than anything, Honcho is looking for someone to give him the chance he deserves. He has spent enough time being everyones favorite shelter dog. Now he is ready to be someones favorite dog, period.

If you are looking for a loyal, loving companion with a big heart and an even bigger personality, Honcho might be your guy.

Petersburg Animal Care & Control's Adoption Policy
Thank you for your interest in adopting from Petersburg Animal Care & Control! We’re so glad you’re considering giving a shelter pet a loving home. We do not charge an adoption fee; however, all animals must be spayed or neutered prior to adoption, and the cost of the procedure is covered by the adopter. We’re happy to support adopters by coordinating appointments with our low-cost veterinary partners for spay/neuter services and other basic care needs. Adoption Process • We prefer to schedule appointments for meet-and-greets to ensure that staff or volunteers are available to spend adequate time helping you get to know the animal. • When you arrive, please sign in and wait to be escorted by a staff member or volunteer before entering the kennel areas. • For safety reasons, please do not reach into kennels or attempt to touch animals through barriers. If you’re interested in a particular pet, our team will bring them to a meet-and-greet area for proper introductions. • After your visit, you’re welcome to submit an adoption application. Applications must be approved before we can schedule a meet-and-greet with your family pets. • Meet-and-greets with personal pets are by appointment only, and for safety, two staff members must be present to handle all animals involved. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to make each match the best fit possible — both for our animals and their future families.
