Français ci-dessous<br/><br/>Hero is a young Lab mix who will turn one in early August. He is tall and slim; currently weighing about 18 kilos (40 lbs). Still very much a puppy, he is learning about the world around him and continuing to build confidence. <br/><br/>Hero is a sweet, affectionate dog with a gentle, sensitive nature. He enjoys the company of other dogs—his favourite playmate right now is Dolly, who is also available for adoption. He plays well and likes having other dogs around him, so he is well suited to a home with another friendly and playful dog. <br/><br/>Hero will make a wonderful companion. He is very affectionate and enjoys attention. When out playing in the dog park, he will often come for little check-ins just to let you know he hasnt forgotten you. Hero is still working on leash skills, he can zigzag at times and may jump up when excited, but he is responsive and a quick learner. <br/><br/>He can be unsure around some men; no aggression, no barking, just very timid. Because of this, he will do best in a home where he can build his trust and confidence, with an adopter who understands and respects his boundaries. He is comfortable with certain men, so his reactions appear situational. A shelter environment can be stressful for a young dog, and Hero will benefit from the stability, consistency, and predictable routine of a home. <br/><br/>With cats, Hero currently barks (he has a soft, slightly hoarse bark that fits his gentle temperament) and backs away, he has shown no aggression. <br/><br/>Hero is a great young dog who simply needs stability and love to build his confidence and grow into a well-rounded adult dog. Il apprécie la compagnie des autres chiens : sa compagne de jeu préférée en ce moment est Dolly, qui est également proposée à ladoption. Il adore jouer avec eux et apprécie leur compagnie; il sadaptera donc parfaitement à un foyer où vit déjà un autre chien amical et joueur.<br/><br/>Hero fera un merveilleux compagnon. Il est très affectueux et apprécie lattention quon lui porte. Lorsquil joue au parc canin, il revient souvent vous voir quelques instants, simplement pour sassurer que vous êtes toujours là.<br/><br/>Hero apprend encore à bien marcher en laisse. Il peut parfois zigzaguer ou sauter lorsquil est excité, mais il apprend vite et réagit très bien aux encouragements.<br/><br/>Il peut se montrer hésitant en présence de certains hommes. Il ne montre aucune agressivité et naboie pas; il est simplement très timide. Cest pourquoi il sépanouira davantage dans un foyer où il pourra développer sa confiance, auprès dun adoptant qui comprend et respecte ses limites. Il est à laise avec certains hommes; ses réactions semblent donc dépendre de la situation. Lenvironnement dun refuge peut être stressant pour un jeune chien, et Hero tirera profit de la stabilité, de la constance et dune routine prévisible.<br/><br/>Avec les chats, Hero aboie actuellement (il a un aboiement doux, légèrement rauque, qui reflète bien sa nature calme et sensible) et recule, mais il na montré aucune agressivité.<br/><br/>Hero est un jeune chien formidable qui a simplement besoin de stabilité et damour pour prendre confiance en lui et devenir un chien adulte équilibré. Frontier Animal Society's Adoption Policy
CATS When placing a cat into an adoptive home, our primary goal is to ensure that the adopter is the right match for that particular cat.  It is very traumatic for both the cat and the adopting family if the cat has to return to the shelter. We also want to be sure that the adopter is ready for this responsibility and commitment. We feel it is already very positive that you are choosing to adopt rather than buy a cat from a pet store (which is more often than not from a kitten mill). Our Procedure for Adopting a Cat The adoption/inquiry process starts by either sending us an email or by contacting our adoption coordinator directly by phone. During the initial contact we can answer your questions, and we will have some of our own as well, such as what type of home you can provide and what kind of cat you are looking for--energy level, types of activities you do, length of time the cat would be alone during a typical day, other animals in the house, children and age of children, male/female preference, and any other of your important criteria for choosing a specific cat. Some of our potential adopters are interested in meeting a particular cat while others prefer to come to the shelter to meet a few of our adoptable cats and choose among them. Either way, prior to your visit, you may want to have a conversation with our adoption coordinator and then make an appointment to visit the cat(s). We also offer an Open House every Saturday and Sunday morning from 10 to 12 when people can drop by the shelter and meet some of our cats. We like to talk to each potential adopter because we know our cats, and through conversation we can get a feel as to whether or not the cat you are interested in will be a match. If you aren't sure what type of cat is best suited to your lifestyle, we can often help narrow it down. Our preference is that all family members attend the adoption visit and if younger children live in the home, they should be present as well. First Visit Adoptions We try to discourage first visit adoptions, because adoptions should not be an impulsive or emotional decision. It must be a well thought out, rational decision. You also need to prepare your home for the new pet. If a first visit adoption is anticipated (for example adopters living a distance away from the shelter), then reference checks must be made beforehand. Home checks are scheduled on a case by case basis.
