Hera $99 ADOPTION FEE's Story
PET INSURANCE IS RECOMMENDED BUT NOT A NECESSITY FOR HERA AS AN ADOPTION EXPECTATION

Hera lived with entire life with her human, since a puppy, but sadly when her owner passed away, there was no plan for Hera and she ended up in an Ontario shelter.

She arrived overweight at 22 KG / 48.5 POUNDS | DOB: 10/18/13 (according to her microchip). She had an ear infection in her right ear that was treated. She had 4 warts removed. She had a dental cleaning completed and didn't require any teeth removed . She was previously spayed according to the shelter and our veterinarian feels this is accurate with what they think is a spay scar. If for any reason she goes into heat, Mattie's Place will 100% cover the cost of her spay at our rescue veterinarian. She has been dewormed, vaccinated including bordetella, microchipped and had extensive bloodwork.

She has some senior dogs lumps and bumps that are non-problematic.

She had an enlarged nipple. The nipple was just chronic thickening. There was some inflammation on the skin beside it. We started her on zenrelia and that resolved it. Her vajayjay was also irritated from not being kept clean or her overlicking it (we're not sure). We cleaned it up for her and she had some medicated cream applied and this has also been resolved.

Hera is in foster care with a young couple and their Mattie's Place adopted dog, living in a condo and she does well. They are an active couple though and Hera thrives on that activity, even though she's a senior girl. Hera also loves using her nose, so an adopter could consider scent training as a fun activity for her.

She is a scent hound (Harrier according to her original owner's family), so she can be vocal and is higher energy with good stamina.

Hera was cat tested at the shelter and they shelter stated she was non-problematic. I have not cat tested her so I can't confirm her cat friendly status.

Hera is a great senior gal, looking for a quieter home with an active adopter who can see her through her retirement years.

FROM THE FOSTER:

Hera is a lovely chill lady who loves being outside but also enjoys having long naps on the couch beside you. She is very gentle and has been a perfect dog when meeting new people and other dogs in our neighbourhood.

Hera loves going for walks. She pulls a bit on the leash but usually only when she desperately needs to get to a scent. Her long walks with us have been about an hour but I think sheād be happy to keep going for longer.

Hera is house trained. She requires around 4 walks a day for toileting. Sheās had a few accidents with us but they were while she was adjusting to her new environment and before we were used to her communication. She is good about signalling when she needs to go out.

This old gal is unflappable and takes almost everything in her stride - having a cone put on, walking along a busy road, and even having an ointment applied to her privates.

The one thing Hera canāt handle right now is wooden floors. She absolutely refused to walk on them in her first days with us. We put down some carpet runners and theyāve worked a treat! She can sometimes walk on wooden floors now depending on her mood, but prefers to stick to the carpet runners.

Hera seems used to getting table scraps. She gets very excited when itās human mealtime, and may even do a happy dance if the smell is to her liking. We havenāt given her any human food but we can confidently say bacon is her favourite - she did her dance and then barked at us when she didnāt get any of our bacon.

We have left Hera on her own for a couple of hours at a time. She may whine a little but settles quickly and is mostly asleep on her bed or the couch while weāre out. She also occasionally whines when weāre around, and it seems to be when she wants someone to sit beside her. Sheās been doing it less with time though.

Overall Hera is a wonderful dog. She likes to be around people but is not clingy, she loves walks but is not high energy, and interested in saying hi to people but always politely. We have been enjoying her chill energy, her big ears and seeing her becoming more confident in her new environment.

----------------------------------------

$99 ADOPTION FEE INCLUDES: spay/neuter, deworming, flea/tick prevention, vaccinations, dentals if needed or any added surgical needed surgical care, food, nose to tail health exam, toys, leash|collar, winter coat (seasonal), poop bags, dishes and 30 days of Trupanion pet insurance with immediate coverage on adoption day for any illness or injury not pre-existing.

----------------------------------------

To note: the above description is relevant to this dog in it's current & previous setting. Home changes & adopter personalities can bring out different behaviours not previously seen.
