Meet Henry in MD - Expert Snuggler, Adores Attention!

The handsome Henry is on the hunt for his furever home! He adores people and getting attention, whether you’re his human or a brand new friend, it makes no difference! He hasn’t met a handyman or service person coming to the house who he didn't love. He wants to greet everyone when out on walks, and makes little "monkey sounds" in anticipation. And he’s incredibly gentle when greeting older adults and children of all ages. Even going to the vet is a blast because there are people there who love on him. Henry would like to be an only pet, keeping all the human attention for himself, and as long as he can be with his people, Henry is happy both inside or outdoors. He is always trying to get as much body contact as possible, by leaning into you, trying to sit on your lap, and snuggling in bed, acting like a fully body pillow! Belly rubs are awesome, and he will turn upside down anytime, anywhere to get them. He enjoys getting his long, soft coat brushed, and doesn't mind having his nails cut - just lays back and relaxes.

This smart boy walks well on leash, is crate trained, and knows lots of commands - he is very good with “sit” and “down,” while “come,” “here,” and “stay” are more iffy - he usually complies, but in true Pyrenees character, it may take some time and a second ask. Additionally, he knows "gentle" which is used to calm down his initial enthusiasm in interacting with people. His bag of tricks also includes “paw,” “high five,” “touch,” and "chin" - to rest his chin in your hand or a surface while waiting for something. Finally, he is a contortionist, demonstrating unmatched origami skills when folding his paws under himself like a cat, bending his neck back like a crane, and in general, lying in the weirdest positions.

Henry enjoys stretching out in the back seat for a car ride, lounging on cool tiles, working on food puzzles, and playing with his snuffle mat. Bully sticks are a reason for excitement, and he will jump up and down on all fours like a little goat to get one! Henry is an average barker for a Pyr, and would love a big yard to patrol and rule over that includes a 6’ fence and a water feature (kiddie pools are so much fun!). Favorite treats include green beans, greek yogurt and cottage cheese. He’s an excellent helper, "cleaning up" empty food containers - he will gently take them, carry them to a good spot and then thoroughly enjoy every last molecule. With his love for yogurt, sour cream and cottage cheese, he could participate in a Daisy commercial!

Henry is an overall calm and collected pup, but will bark at thunder and high wind. He’s mostly low-key with bursts of activity (especially in the morning), so his ideal home would be fairly quiet, with moderately active people who take him on the occasional adventure. This big boy needs a confident, large-breed experienced person who can take the lead on walks. What is most special about Henry is his loving nature toward people. He loves to love and be loved, and when he leans into you, all the world's troubles fade away. If you’re seeking an expert snuggler, put in an application for Henry today!

Due to the high level of interest we can't respond to emails unless an application has been submitted.

Our goal is to assess every application on its own merits. Key considerations are: 1) the experience of the applicant with large breed dogs 2) children in the household or regularly visiting the household are ready for a large-breed dog who is a guardian by nature (www.nationalpyr.org/know-the-breed) and 3) the sex of other dogs currently residing in the household to avoid same-sex aggression issues. For puppies under six months old, the applicant’s ability to socialize the puppy with older dogs is a priority.

Secure VISIBLE fencing is required; invisible fencing WILL NOT contain this breed.
