Helen (Sister Goldie)'s Story

Helen is a 6-year-old smooth chocolate dappled dachshund who is roughly 16 lbs. She came in with her sister Goldie, and we will accept applications for both of them together or separately. However, Helen doesn't like most other dogs aside from her sister, and they are not compatible with cats. Helen could be ok with a larger, neutral dog that isn't too young, wild or dominant.

Helen had a recent dental and her sister Goldie has her dental on May 7th.

Helen is silly, sweet, and enjoys walks. She is a "shadow" to her people and loves to be pet, especially belly rubs.

Goldie is sensitive, sweet, and takes a while to feel comfortable. She is 5.5 years old and is compatible with other small dogs. She had a bout of IVDD in 2025, but has since made a full recovery. She does have some separation anxiety, but we think this is due to having to be in a separate foster home from her sister.

To be considered for Helen or her sister, please apply on our website:

https://portlanddachshundrescue.org/adoptionform

Helen's Criteria:

A home setting with a securely fenced backyard
A home with no other dogs, or a home willing to adopt her sister Goldie, also
A cat-free home
Kids 10+ ok

Portland Dachshund Rescue, Inc.'s Adoption Policy
OUR CRITERIA There's nothing better than a successful match. We like to explain the process of finding the right rescue dog as being similar to online dating: You will want to check our site often to see who is new, read each bio and reach out if you think they might have found someone special. Our adoption team is highly skilled at helping you find a dog with the right personality that will fit your family and lifestyle. Occasionally, we receive multiple promising applications for a dog and ultimately match the dog with the home where we think they will do best. We are committed to helping you find a dog even if you don't "match" on your first attempt. We would love nothing more than to help you find the forever dog of your dreams. Although we like to tailor each match, we do have some basic criteria we look with respect to adoptive homes: *Homes should be non-smoking *Have a securely fenced yard *Ability to commit to yearly dentals and shots for the pet *Willingness to purchase ramps and pet stairs to safeguard the dog's back
