Heath's Story
- Sweet boy who loves to snuggle and give kisses once he feels comfortable

- Can be shy and reserved at times, and is looking for people who will treat him with kindness and understanding and let him go at his own pace when he needs that

- Knows sit, shake and down and is an expert at catching treats in his mouth

- Enjoys walks and does best with a harness

- Can be socially awkward and unsure around other dogs; would be most comfortable with a slow introduction to new dogs (dog intro recommended)

- Young, noisy or busy children can be too much for him; would benefit from a mature home where all members of the household are old enough to understand his signals and respect when he needs his space

- We don't know his history with cats

- Arrived at the ARL with heartworms and received a full course of treatment here; will receive a free recheck at the ARL in April 2026 to make sure he's in the clear and will need to be kept fairly calm until that time (more info at ARL)

This pet qualifies for our 7-day Foster-to-Adopt program. If you're interested in fostering to adopt, please reach out to meetme@arl-iowa.org.

All adoptable dogs and puppies are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and DA2PPV as appropriate for their age)

The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label. Primary Color: Brown Weight: 45lbs Age: 1yrs 7mths 1wks Animal has been Neutered
