Haverly's Story
Nothing can get Haverly down. His whole body wags, his kisses are enthusiastic and thorough, and he greets every person like they might be his favorite.
It's a beautiful thing, but it also makes you wonder how he stayed this way.
In 2022, Haverly was rescued by Chris Haverly, who saved and transported thousands of unwanted dogs and cats to safety in Southwest Virginia. Chris passed away in January, but his impact lives on in dogs like Haverly - dogs who wake up every day ready to love.
After his rescue, Haverly was adopted and became a wonderful family dog - gentle with kids, great with other dogs, and with excellent house manners. Somewhere along the way, though, that life unraveled. Recently, he was picked up as a stray, wandering with no one looking for him.
Now he's back with us, still the same big, affectionate, happy dog, just with a new challenge. Two suspicious lumps on his leg turned out to be mast cell tumors.
So, Haverly had surgery.
And through all of it -- being lost, being found, the diagnosis, the recovery -- he has stayed exactly the same: soft, joyful, unshaken.
Now healthy and lump-free, Haverly is ready to go home again.
He was rescued by an angel. He survived abandonment and cancer for a reason.
Maybe that reason is you?
Come be inspired (and enthusiastically kissed) by Haverly at Animal Aid Society, 80 Butler Farm Road, Hampton, VA. Visiting hours are 9am to noon, daily, including weekends and holidays.
Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!

PLEASE NOTE: Animal Aid Society observes a 40 mile adoption radius to facilitate post adoption support and follow ups.
