Haverly's Story
Years ago, we thought we'd found Haverly his forever family. They thought he was perfect, too.
Then they moved.
Instead of taking him with them - or returning him to us, as they promised - they left him with someone. Who left him with someone else. Somewhere along the way, Haverly wound up alone in a regional shelter.
Fortunately, Haverly had one tiny piece of technology working in his favor: a microchip. That's how the shelter found Animal Aid. Otherwise... well, let's not think about that.
Haverly isn't.
He's six years old, devastatingly handsome, housetrained, gentle, affectionate, wonderful on a leash, and the kind of dog who believes the best place in the world is wherever his people are. He happily lived with young children and other dogs, has excellent house manners, and treats couches like sacred objects meant only for tasteful lounging and maximum cuddling.
His whole body wags when he sees people. His kisses are enthusiastic enough to qualify as a facial exfoliation. He greets every stranger like a best friend. It's remarkable when you remember everything he's been through.
Haverly was originally rescued by the late Chris Haverly, whose life's work gave thousands of unwanted dogs a second chance. Somehow, Haverly still wakes up every morning believing the world is full of good people. We think Chris would be pretty proud of that.
The remarkable thing about dogs is that they don't spend much time asking why yesterday happened. Haverly was failed by people who promised him forever, yet he still greets new people like they're about to become family.
This time, we'd really like him to be right.
PLEASE HELP give Haverly the happy new beginning he deserves. Share his story. Tell your friends. His person or family is out there; let's help them find each other.
Haverly is at Animal Aid Society, 80 Butler Farm Road, Hampton, VA. Visiting hours are 9am to noon, daily, including weekends & holidays.
Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!

PLEASE NOTE: Animal Aid Society observes a 40 mile adoption radius to facilitate post adoption support and follow ups.
