Harlow's Story

Apply to Adopt Me!<br/>Meet Harlow, an approx. 6-7yo, 19lb. possible Cairn Terrier/Schnauzer mix. Harlow was surrendered to the shelter when her people could no longer afford to pay for her care. She arrived to the shelter as a big matted mess (see photo), and with a grapefruit-sized mass on her left side. The shelter shaved her down, and then placed her on deadline to be either rescued or euthanized, and we just couldn’t let her die. Once with Lil Rascals, she got into our vet right away and we had the mass removed. The vet was able to remove all of it, and chest x-rays showed nothing concerning. She has bounced back from the surgery wonderfully and we know she feels so much better. This sweet girl is good with all people and dogs, but is a little too curious with cats. She is currently in a home with a calm, senior cat that is dog savvy and does fine, but a home with a young cat, or a fast-moving cat will make her want to give chase. So it would be best if the home were cat-free. True to her breed, she has a high prey drive, always on the lookout for squirrels, lizards and frogs. Harlow is house trained, walks well and briskly on leash with no reaction to people or other dogs, rides perfectly in the car, knows “sit,” takes treats gently, and sleeps with her people all through the night. She loves kids, loves to play with toys and to play tug-o-war. She is not destructive and can be left out free range when her people leave the house. Want a 4-legged fur companion that you can take to restaurants with outdoor seating, or take her into dog-friendly shops? Then Harlow is your girl! Please note that Harlow does have a dominating and growly play style that can be overwhelming and even scary for many dogs, although she is just playing. She is so cute now, and once her fur grows out she will be stunning. This brindle-color beauty has the prettiest long eyelashes. Her fur on her head is growing back as a beautiful silvery grey color. Since she is normally a longer-haired dog, she will need regular brushing and grooming to keep her coat at its best. Harlow looks forward to having an active family with a fenced yard, who can take her on adventures with them.
