Happy's Story
A060951 Happy; neutered Toy Fox Terrier / Chihuahua mix; age 1 year; 16.50 pounds
Contact: Calaveras County Animal Services
(209)754-6509
Website: https://animal.calaverasgov.us/
Email: animal@calaverascounty.gov

Meet Happy!

Those of you with sharp eyes might recognize him from a difficult experience he went through, which was documented on Facebook. Happy was hit by a car. A caring community member who found him took him straight to the vet to get checked out. Happy turned out not to be seriously injured, thankfully, and has made a full recovery.

In spite of his trials, Happy remains a gentle soul. He is a quiet, very good boy who is friendly with everyone. He gets along well with other dogs, though he's only met a few so far, as we have been careful with him initially for his own safety. On walkies, he is pleasant on leash. He takes treats gently, and appreciates when we break them up into smaller bits for his wee little mouth.

We have noticed that Happy is a bit of an escape artist. When we enter his kennel to leash him for his morning walk, he may attempt to slip out the door if we're not careful. Before he came to us, rumor has it he had been seen roaming around town, so perhaps he wants to get back out on walkabout. Of course, that sort of behavior is how he ended up in trouble in the first place! For this reason, we recommend that he have appropriate supervision and containment, especially while he settles into a new home.

All in all, Happy has the potential to be a lovely companion. If you're looking for a snack-size buddy to pal around with, Happy might be just the sweet treat you need.

Though we can't make guarantees, he keeps his kennel very tidy and may be house trained.

We do not have information on his attitude toward cats at this time.

As always, a meet-and-greet is required if you have other dogs at home.
