He arrived shy and unsure of the world, but with consistency and kindness he has begun to blossom — showing affection, following his foster mom from room to room, and seeking comfort from trusted people.

He is tender-hearted, submissive, non-reactive, and never shows aggression even when scared. This is a puppy who thrives with soft voices, calm routines, and adopters who understand that confidence grows slowly but beautifully.

Personality & People Skills

With Women
• Initially scared and avoids approaching on his own
• After about 2 weeks, he begins to open up and follow his person everywhere
• Shows affection by snuggling close and staying near trusted people
• When nervous, he flattens or freezes — never bites
• Accepts handling; enjoys being held once he trusts you

With Men
• Not specifically fearful of men — he is shy toward all new people
• Deep voices, large builds, and sudden movement may startle him
• Builds trust with calm exposure and quiet presence

With Children
• No direct experience
• Startles easily with sudden running or loud play
• Not recommended for homes with young children

Dogs
• Lives peacefully with a companion dog
• Very gentle and not competitive; lets other dogs win
• Avoids pushy, barking, or intense dogs
• Prefers calm dogs or similar-size dogs
• Has not met large dogs yet

Cats
• When he sees cats, Hangwa shows mild curiosity — he may look at them or briefly sniff, but that’s the extent of it. He does not chase, bark, or show prey behavior. Overall, he is far more interested in people, treats, and other friendly dogs than in cats.

Home Life & Behavior
• Alone time: 4–6 hours max; no separation anxiety observed (he is rarely fully alone)
• Sleeps on the bed with foster mom; rests calmly during the day
• No destructive behavior — extremely gentle and easy to manage
• Zero barking so far
• 100% outdoor potty trained
• Eats well but tends to swallow bones ? must supervise bone treats

Training & Daily Care

Walks
• Needs a double leash (harness + collar) — can dart when startled
• Shy outside: loud noises, sudden motion, or new environments can worry him
• Sniffs, explores, and walks better after warm-up
• Curious about street food ? needs monitoring

Car Rides
• Enjoys car rides once in his seat
• Must be prevented from jumping out when the door opens
• Prefers a car seat over a carrier; no motion sickness

Grooming
• Exceptionally gentle
• No aggression during baths, nail care, drying, or tooth brushing
• Gets nervous but allows full handling with praise

Crate Training
• Hesitant to enter but calm once inside
• Crate training in progress

Health & Preventatives
• Healthy
• No allergies observed
• Monthly NexGard Spectra on the 20th
• Eats NOW Dog Fresh Grain-Free Small Breed Puppy
• Loves chicken, beef, duck neck chews (supervise due to swallowing tendency)

Ideal Home for Hangwa

Hangwa will thrive with a family who is:
• Calm, patient, and experienced with shy or cautious dogs
• Ready to give him the time and space he needs to warm up
• Understanding of his sensitive nature and slow-to-trust personality
• Willing to maintain double-leash safety until he becomes confident
• Able to provide routine outdoor walks and gentle socialization
• Open to building trust gradually and celebrating small milestones

He would do well as:
• A solo dog with attentive adopters or
• In a home with one gentle, friendly dog

Homes That Are Not a Good Match
• Loud, chaotic, or high-energy households
• First-time dog owners without experience with shy dogs
• Families expecting an immediately confident, extroverted puppy

From His Foster

“Hangwa is shy at first, but once he opens his heart, he follows you everywhere. He is soft, sensitive, obedient, and incredibly sweet. He just needs a gentle family who understands that his trust is precious — and once he gives it, he gives it fully.”
