Name: Ham

Nicknames: Hammie, Ham-Man, Hamster

Age or Date of Birth: 3 Months old (as of 5/7/21)

Activity Level: I’m pretty energetic (I am a puppy after all). I love to run around the yard and chase a ball or play tug of war. I play with one toy for a couple minutes and then jump to the next one. Bones are fun but also stuffed toys with squeakers, balls, and even sticks are a blast.

Things I do in my free time: Play with all the toys, they’re so much fun. I’ve been learning a lot from my fosters too!

Things I know: My name and “sit”.

Things I am learning/currently working on: Pretty much everything but right now we’re focusing on potty/crate training and waiting patiently for my food.

Who I currently live with (humans and animals): 2 adult humans, one adult male dog and one young female dog.

How I do with kids: Unknown but probably pretty good. I’m young enough that I can learn to co-exist. I bet they’re a lot of fun, but the adults need to know that I am currently teething and think chewing on everything (including hands/fingers) is a lot of fun. Even though supervision with kids/dogs is always recommended no matter what age, I would definitely need to be watched right now until I grow out of the biting habit.

How I do with dogs: I love to play with other dogs. The dogs I currently live with are a bit intimidating since they’re so much older/bigger than me, but I listen to body language well. My foster says I’m a submissive boy.

How I do with cats: They’re super interesting! I stayed with a temp foster over the weekend and ended up becoming buddies with a feline. Cats are a’okay with me!

My current size: I’m around 10-12 lbs. right now. I’m not the biggest of my litter but also not the smallest. I’ll most likely grow to be around 50-55 lbs.

How I do in my kennel: I wouldn’t say great, but I also wouldn’t say horrible. I will run into my kennel super quick if you have treats or kibble for me. I will cry for 5-10 minutes before I settle. I stay in the kennel during the day even though one of my foster parents works from home. I nap for a couple hours and then cry to be let outside. I go potty during her breaks and then it’s back in the kennel I go. She keeps telling me the kennel is my space and that I need to learn it’s a good place for me to just hang out. I sleep in there during the night and will wake up once to be let out and then it’s back to my bed unless it’s close to the time the humans get up anyway. I have not had any accidents in my kennel.

How I do in car rides: Car rides are fine to me. I’ve ridden in my kennel and, much like at home, will whine for a little bit and then fall asleep.

Am I house trained?: No, but foster mom tells me I’m doing much better than some of the puppies she’s had in the house. I’m really good at going right away when you bring me outside, but you have to keep an eye on me when I have free range inside. I’ve been good about running to the door when I need to go out. I’ve only had a couple accidents since being in my foster home and that’s pretty good for my age!

Additional Info from foster: Ham is a great little boy. He’s smart and picks up on queues quickly. It took him a little over a day to learn “sit” and under 15 minutes to pick up on the It’s Your Choice game. He’s a pretty active pup. He loves to play and will entertain himself but loves when you join in by throwing the toy or playing tug. When he does nap, he’s a good snuggle buddy. He’d do great in a home with other animals as he picks up on dogs’ body language well, but he would also do great in a home as the only dog as well.
