Gunner's Story
Gunner checking in...

Hey friends… can we talk about something important?
If you’ve been putting off your dental checkups or cleanings, please don’t wait too long!

When I first came to foster, I was super chill. I didn’t care about toys much and mostly just wanted to hang out and snuggle. But after my dental treatment, surgery, and all my meds, I started feeling SO much better. Now I even know how to chase a ball — and it’s actually fun!

My foster parents say I’d be perfect for an older couple or a quieter home. I’m the kind of dog who loves to sit beside you, snuggle, and just enjoy your company. If you want to play, I’ll join in, but I’m also totally happy napping in the other room on my own. I don’t need constant attention.

I’m pretty much house trained and go right into my crate when asked — no complaints! They usually only crate me if they’ll be gone all day and no one can check on me.

Okay, I do have one tiny bad habit… I might try to eat any food left out. But honestly, who wouldn’t? One time the trash was completely full and smelled AMAZING (Mom had just cleaned out the fridge), so I knocked it over to investigate. They said that was more of a “people problem” than a “dog problem” — I agree!

I know sit, paw, lay down, and no. I don’t jump on people, bark at the doorbell, or try to run out when the door opens. I ride nicely in the car and don’t chase things in the yard.

I lived with another dog for a week at a different foster home, but I wasn’t thrilled about sharing attention with another male dog, so I moved. The shelter said I did okay with other dogs, so a calm female might be fine. I’ve also met a guinea pig — he was noisy, but I just looked at him and walked away. He’s definitely too small to play with!

Honestly, I don’t show much interest in squirrels, birds, or even the neighbor’s barking dog. I’m just a laid-back, gentle guy who wants to feel good, be comfy, and be loved.

If you are interested in fostering or learning more about Gunner to see if you might be a good fit, please reach out to Barbara at BarbaraABoxer@gmail.com

Please note:
You must be approved before meeting Gunner or any dog in rescue
Applications (adoption or foster) can be submitted at www.njboxerrescue.com
You will need to complete the full approval process, and we cannot hold dogs while applications are being processed.

Gunner’s Details:
Age: 6 years
Housetrained: Yes
Dogs: Yes
Cats: Unknown
Kids: 10+
