Gumbo

Gumbo entered San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus as a stray, and sadly, he wasn't claimed. Shelter staff and volunteers advocated for his rescue, noting that Gumbo is sweet, gentle, and calm. He was kenneled with a senior female dog, and they get along well. <br/><br/>We welcomed sweet Gumbo as a Frosted Face on March 9th. He is about 8 years old and weighs 72 lbs. Gumbo went on an extended Frosted Fling, and he loves being part of a family again. His foster mom has only positive things to report:<br/><br/>"This sweet boy is dog friendly, potty trained and crate trained, rides well in the car and doesn't bark much at all. He loves belly rubs and scritches behind the ears. He's a great sleeper overnight (up to 11 hrs. sometimes!) and prefers a 9pm-ish bedtime. He will actually get a little restless waiting for me to put him in his crate for the night; it's so cute. He's not an early riser (which I appreciate) and lets me sleep even if my husband is up and out early for golf. <br/><br/>Day in the life of Gumbo: I usually let him out between 7-8am each morning. During the day he is eager to go for his twice daily walks. We've been working on "wait" at the door, and his tendency to pull on leash at the beginning of a walk. He enjoys playing tug or chase in the backyard. By 10am he's ready for his first nap of the day. Midday there's usually a stuffed Kong or lickimat and some backyard play time. He seems to prefer playing with us over our dog, Betty, but they do a lot of parallel play (each chasing their own ball or chewing their own stuffy). <br/><br/>Gumbo has gone with us to our son's soccer game and met a few kids while I had him "sit" (his one trick), but he does jump when excited and playing, so might do best in a home with older kids who won't be knocked over by his excitement. He's VERY food motivated and quick to find any snacks you might have left on the counter. That said, he does respond to "uh-uh" or "no" and will come, if I whistle for him.<br/><br/>We've fallen in love with this goofy but serious, brown-eyed, lovebug and know he's going to make someone very happy when they adopt him.
