Gretchen's Story

MEET GRETCHEN!

If you've ever thought, "You know what my life needs? A 100 pound best friend with a gigantic head and absolutely no concept of personal space," we have your girl

Meet Gretchen! She was rescued from the euthanasia list at Stanislaus Animal Services Agency when the shelter ran out of space. She made it out, overcame a rough medical start, and today she is safe, healthy, ridiculously loved, and officially ready to find her forever family.

And thanks to Embark, we finally know exactly what created this masterpiece:

48.5% Cane Corso
24.3% Mastiff
15.3% Bullmastiff
11.9% Neapolitan Mastiff

Basically, someone ordered the Mastiff variety pack

Gretchen is around 3 years old and 95-100 pounds although we remain convinced a significant percentage of that is just her head.

She is goofy, affectionate, playful and SO much fun. Gretchen loves people and approaches life with the enthusiasm of someone who believes every day is her birthday. She wants to be involved, wants to be loved, and has absolutely no idea she is the size of a small refrigerator.

She's also a BIG dog who likes BIG dog play. Wrestling, chasing, body slamming and general nonsense are right up her alley. A large, playful canine buddy who appreciates her particular brand of chaos could be an amazing match. More reserved dogs may find Miss Gretchen to be...a bit much

She is crate trained, potty trained and doing wonderfully in a home. She's still polishing up her manners and occasionally needs reminding that not every waking moment needs to be a party.

Because she can be mouthy when excited and is approximately the size of an adult human, we're looking for a home without small/young children. Cats and small animals are unknown.

Gretchen is a true guardian-breed girl..loyal, alert, incredibly loving and happiest when she has structure and knows what's expected of her. We'd love to find her a family with large/guardian-breed experience who will continue her training and appreciate her for exactly who she is.

And who is Gretchen?

100 pounds of brindle.
40 pounds of head.
Zero pounds of personal space.
And one VERY good girl!

Fostered in Oakdale, CA
Apply to meet her through California Bully Rescue.

California Bully Rescue's Adoption Policy
Our adoption coordinator will reach out and request the following items: proof of landlord approval if you rent, proof of residency, picture of your ID, copy of your HOI policy if you own. 4. Next step is a virtual home check and (2) reference checks. 5. (a) Once all that is complete, we will schedule a meet and greet. If you have a dog(s), we will schedule the first meet and greet with HUMANS ONLY. It’s important for people to get to know the dog without a new dog influencing how the dog you seek to adopt will behave. After this meet, we ask that you sleep on it and let us know the next day if you want to continue with adopting. 5. (b) If you have a dog(s) and you want to proceed with adopting the dog, we will schedule a second meet and greet for the dogs to meet. The dogs will do a pack walk together. If either your dog(s) or the dog you are seeking to adopt does great with other dogs, but is reactive at first, we will do a minimum of (3) dog-to-dog meet and greets with an experienced handler or trainer present. 6. If you wish to continue after meet and greets have been conducted and we believe you to be a fit as well, we will complete a background check that requires a non-refundable $100 deposit. This deposit will go towards your adoption fee, if you pass and are chosen for adoption. 7. Once all checks and meet and greets are completed and you are approved for adoption, we will collect the remainder of the adoption fee and schedule your pick up for the dog. Our process is designed to ensure our dogs end up in their forever home, we believe that if a family is the right fit and they truly want to add one of our dogs to their family, they will be willing to go through our process.
