Great Northern

Great Northern is approximately 2 years old and currently in foster in Lobo, Texas. Great Northern (GN) is a total love bug who believes there's no such thing as too many cuddles. He'll happily snuggle up with anyone willing to share a little affection and asks for very little in return. He's quiet under most circumstances, walks beautifully on a leash, and has excellent manners in public. When his needs have been met—a walk, a potty break, and a little activity—he's perfectly content relaxing on his own. He's also wonderfully polite with other dogs, happily sharing snacks, water, and even his favorite people. In fact, when he needs to go outside, he'll gently bring you (or at least touch) his leash to let you know.<br/><br/>Like many dogs, GN has a few adorable quirks. He's a bit of a picky pooper and prefers a spot where he feels comfortable. If he doesn't find one, he'll simply hold it, which can lead to some whining until he gets the chance to go. If he cries when left alone, it's usually because he needs something, not because he's destructive or unable to be by himself.<br/><br/>GN would thrive with an individual, couple, or family with respectful children. While he hasn't had direct interactions with kids in foster care, he's been calm and happy when children from toddler age through teenagers have stopped to wave or say hello. He'd love a shaded yard to relax in, though even a small one would suit him just fine with a couple of daily walks. An older canine companion would be ideal, but a laid-back younger dog would also make a great friend.<br/><br/>We don't know what Great Northern experienced before rescue, but it's remarkable how open-hearted he remains. He is incredibly gentle, trusting, and eager to love. He enjoys walks but is happiest lounging beside his people. He'd probably prefer not to spend every day in the car, but he's quick to learn routines and gets excited when he knows he's headed somewhere he enjoys.
