Grandpa Douglas's Story

Grandpa Douglas is an 8 year old hound mix with a gray muzzle and a smile he can't seem to turn off.

Don't let the "Grandpa" fool you- he's bright, happy, and full of life. He loves car rides with his head out the window, a good long sniff through tall grass, and butt scratches above all else. He's very vocal about his gratitude and will happily tell you how he's feeling.

He came off a euthanasia list at a rural Oklahoma shelter, where the staff fought hard to get this good old man placed before his time ran out. He made fast friends everywhere he went on his first day of freedom, including the crew at a Sonic drive-thru who sent him off with a bacon topped pup cup.

Douglas is good with other dogs, friendly with cats and strangers, and great with teens and loves being around kids as young as five (he hasn't been tested with younger kids). He's crate trained and rides in the car like a champ.

This sugar faced senior has waited long enough for his happy ending. He's currently heartworm positive and in foster in Tulsa, OK. Once he's cleared of heartworms, he will be adoptable anywhere in the country.

helplesshounds.com/adoption-application

Helpless Hounds Dog Rescue's Adoption Policy
For a complete list of our adoption criteria, please visit: https://www.helplesshounds.com/faqs NOTE: You must complete and submit an application and be approved to adopt prior to being able to meet the dog. We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks during the application approval process. We always try to select the right applicant for each dog, based on the dog’s needs and try to find the best match for both dog and human. We leave a dog’s profile online until either it has been adopted, or has received several applications. We are a non-profit organization that spends our adoption fees and donations on vaccinations, surgeries, various medical tests, medicines, food and supplies needed by our dogs. Our fees do not cover the overall expenses incurred by the care of our dogs, but they do help defray the costs involved. We thank you for your support.
